Curtis M. Ryan, 91, of Overland Park, KS, passed away August 29, 2021.  Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 4 at Victory Hills Church of the Nazarene, 6200 Parallel Pkwy, KCK, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.  Private inurnment will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Shelter KC.

Curtis was born February 6, 1930 in Norwood, MO, the son of Arch Ryan and Edith (Heath) Ryan.  He graduated from Norwood High School and attended one semester of college in Springfield, MO.  He moved to Kansas City, KS and started working at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company where he retired after 40 years of service.  After retirement, he continued to work for the next 25 years, including at the Nazarene Publishing House, Ed Patton Realtors, and 13 years at Johnson County Pediatrics.  

On December 6, 1953, Curtis married Bonnie June Filer.  They were married for 61 years until her death in January, 2015.

Curtis was a member of Victory Hills Church of the Nazarene for over 70 years.  Over the course of that time, he served as church treasurer and a member of the church board.  He taught Sunday School, Caravans, and helped in Children’s Church.  He sang in the choir.  He served as the treasurer for the Kansas City District Church of the Nazarene for a number of years.

Curtis volunteered as a teacher’s aide at Welborn Elementary School, where his grandson attended, and at St. Pius X Catholic School, where his granddaughter Miranda attended.

Curtis is survived by his daughter, Beth Vance, and her husband Randy; son, Greg Ryan; grandson, Brandon Ryan, and his wife Samantha; granddaughter, Miranda Vance Goolsbay and her husband Trey; and three great-grandchildren, Skylar, Carter, and Emerson Ryan.
