There also he met the love of his life, Joyce Lorraine Carlson whom he would in marry in 1951. He was a proud military veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was based in Virginia. Following the service to his country, Richard and Joyce returned to Kansas City, KS. where they raised their family. His working career was with the Gas Service Company in management both in Kansas City, KS and Liberty, MO.
Richard was a faithful member of Saint Luke Lutheran Church in KCK for over 70 years, where he and Joyce were married, as were all three of their children. He served with Sunday School, outreach, and on various volunteer boards over the years.
After an active and healthy retirement, his final few years saw a steady health decline that accelerated with a stroke in 2018, which resulted in his move to Morningside of Branson Meadows assisted living in Branson, MO nearer to Kevin’s home. He received very good care at the facility and became a favorite of staff members & residents.
