Feb 09, 1941---Sep 11, 2026

Malcolm David Frank, 85, of Overland Park, KS passed away surrounded by family on Friday, September 11, 2026. Known as David or Dave, he was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Beavercreek, Ohio. Growing up, he spent time working in the family business, Arrow Wine Store. David attended Beavercreek High School and went on to Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Finance from Central Missouri State University.

He married Patricia Ann Swink in 1964. They settled in Cincinnati, Ohio while Patti finished her degree in Education at the University of Cincinnati and David worked for Drackett Products Company. David’s career in the field of industrial/wholesale credit took him back and forth between Ohio and Missouri/Kansas with various divisions of Armco Steel Corporation (now AK Steel). After settling in Lenexa, Kansas, David shifted industries and began working for Puritan-Bennett Corporation as the Corporate Credit Manager/Accounts Receivable Manager. When Puritan-Bennett was purchased by Nellcor Corporation, David chose not to follow his job to California, he instead did consulting in accounts receivable improvement for several years before officially retiring in 2000.

David inherited an artistic talent from his mother and the yard of their home in Lenexa, KS became his palette. He worked many hours turning the nature area in the backyard into a garden oasis with paths, benches, and sculptures. Later in life, his artistic talent revealed itself in the form of watercolor and oil painting. His retirement also afforded him the time to take master cooking classes at Johnson County Community College. David was a voracious reader and could be found reading any number of non-fiction books when he was not working in the yard.

David and Patti traveled through life together, both domestically and internationally, visiting all fifty states in America and cruising around the world twice. They believed, “It is the journey and not the destination that counts.” They have been awarded Holland America Line (HAL) recognition for sailing 702 nights on twenty-two cruises on nine different HAL ships. They have the medals and picture with the ship’s Captain to show for it. An extensive baseball cap collection, over 100 caps, serves as a travel log for the places they visited. From Antarctica to Dubai, Galapagos to Australia, Singapore to Malta they visited all seven continents. They wanted to learn about the healthcare system, education, government, where the poor people lived and where the rich people lived. So they found the ultimate option was a local taxi driver in each new place.

After thirty-nine years in a home they both loved, David and Patti moved to Tallgrass Creek Senior Living Community in 2022. He quickly discovered an infinite supply of reading material in all the nooks and crannies and libraries of the complex. He was even known to read books that were part of the decor.

He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren as always being a staunch supporter of their activities and attending as many concerts and sporting events as possible. David and Patti also included their grandchildren in their travels, taking them to explore new states, on road trips to music camp, and cruising the open seas. They went so far as to bring home copies of the first Harry Potter book in thirteen different languages.

David is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patti, their two daughters, Risë Strasser (Dean) and Jennifer Jacobs (Gary), and his three grandchildren, Robin Jacobs, Joshua Strasser (Katie), and Ashley Strasser. He is preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm B. Frank and Marianna Wolf Frank and sister, Sally A. Frank.
