Dec 12, 1946---Aug 30, 2026

Mary Patricia (Patty) Baska, 79, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on August 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Patty was born on December 12, 1946, to Jim and Virginia McClain. She was a daughter, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a grammy and to many, a best friend. Many knew her as PB, Baska or Grammy Patty and everyone loved her. She spent her life caring for others, enjoying the simple things that brought her happiness, and, above all, loving her family.

Patty was the lunchroom manager at Trailwood Elementary School, where she was a familiar and caring presence in the school community. She had a lifelong love of softball, enjoyed a good Pepsi, bowling league and treasured time spent with the people she loved.

Nothing brought Patty greater joy than being a grandmother. She adored her three grandchildren and they brought tremendous happiness and pride to her life. She treasured every opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren at their games. She also loved sharing one of life’s simple pleasures with them – Krispy Kreme donuts.

Patty is survived by her children, Jamie Baska and Angela (Clint) Utz, her beloved grandchildren, Cameran, Calvin, and Colin; and her siblings, Jim (Mary) McClain, Julie Cooper, and Kathleen (Rick) Potts.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Keith Baska, and her parents, Jim and Virginia McClain.

Patty will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, September 4th at Porter Funeral Homes & Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215. Visitation will be from 1:00-1:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service following at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in honor of Patty Baska. Donations will be given to Trailwood Elementary School to help provide meals for students in need who may otherwise be unable to afford school lunch. This meaningful gesture will continue Patty's legacy of caring for and helping others. Please make checks payable to Angela Utz and donations may be mailed to Porter Funeral Home, Attn: Angela Utz.

We loved seeing Patty at all the kids games and hearing her views on all things sports and coaching. We will miss our conversations with her and will remember her great stories! We wish we could be there for her celebration but unfortunately will be out of town. You all will be in our prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about you Mom. I loved Patty so much. She was so much fun to be around, whether I was working for her cleaning windows or if we were out on the softball field. She absolutely loved her friends and family. I know she will be greatly missed. My Brother Pat called me and told me about Patty’s passing, he saw it on facebook. I am so sorry that I will be out of town on Friday so I wont be able to make it to the funeral home. I will definitely send a check to honor Patty. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. Love and prayers are going your way. Joni and Richard Nachbar

Very sad news about Patty. Whenever I think of her I smile. She was her own person, marching to the beat of a different drummer. But always warm and friendly. When her sisters and two friends would go on our yearly shopping sprees, she would meet us for lunch or dinner but would have nothing to do with the shopping. She made us all laugh, with her stories, sensory differences and of course her funny way of saying some things. And for the rest of my life, on those warm summer evenings whenever I hear the “ quesadillas “ sing, I will think of her. And smile.

My heart is so heavy with the loss of Patty. I was so fortunate to work with Patty at Trailwood Elementary where she truly made such a difference to the students and staff. Patty was so kind, caring and always had time to listen. I loved talking with her each day in the office and kitchen and gosh did she love her family and grandchildren-they meant the world to her. I am so very sorry for your families loss.
