Feb 03, 1961---Jul 22, 2026

Craig Stuart Burnett, 65, passed away comfortably in his home Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 9:00pm.

Craig was born February 3rd, 1961 in Madera, California the son of Herbert and Hazel Burnett. He spent his formative years as a teenager in Rapid City, South Dakota where he found his love of music, performing, and most importantly, work.

He became an incredible accordion player only because his mother bribed him with a cb radio. “If you practice a few hours every day during the summer, I’ll get you the radio”. He got it.

He was inspired by technology and tinkering, leading him to discover Radio shack. He loved his Rapid City Radio Shack so much that he was eventually asked to leave - he would stay there to help customers with decisions and even tried to man the cash register. He did not work there.

The more he tinkered and performed, the more he realized his passion for video production and wanted to make a life out of it.

After graduating high-school, he bounced between KC & Denver working cameras, splicing tape, and prat-falling everywhere in between. It was during this time as a young man where he met his wife, Joni, and they had their son, Christopher, before finally settling as a family in their Leawood home in the early 90’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herb & Hazel Burnett. He leaves behind a wife (Joni), Son (Christopher), Daughter-in-law (Melissa), and two cats Rembrandt and Gus, and his other true love - work.

Work was a large part of who he was and how he wanted people to perceive him. Voiceover, on camera, editing…he would do anything for a client, and often pulled many late nights to finish projects. From our favorite meme of “washing cars is hard” to setting up intricate multi-camera live shoots to hanging out of helicopters, Craig would go the extra mile no matter the project. Clients and coworkers quickly realized the hard work he was willing to put in and easily became lifelong friends.

Outside of his work, some of his hobbies included tending bees, flying planes (yes, real planes, in his 30’s), playing accordion and piano, performing as Mr. Voice at ComedySportz/City, pampering wildlife at their rural cabin, correcting your grammar, and finding creative ways to include more butter in his diet.

For a guy whose personality fills a room, his absence can be felt just as much. From some friends: “Our shows and lives were better with him.”, “the smoothest man in the booth, the Voice of God for the Big Slick, and the clumsiest man around a garden hose”, “having him as a friend has been unmeasurable”.

We’d like you to share your memories with us and the rest of his friends, whether below or privately with us. We love to hear of the shenanigans and memories that he’s shared with so many of you.

For the morbidly curious (don’t worry, we’re generally in that crowd too), Craig passed from complications due to colon cancer. In memory of him, we encourage you, your family & friends to get regular cancer screening. And in lieu of flowers, he would prefer donations to the American Cancer Society.

Further arrangements for a memorial service will be made and shared at a later date.

Condolences

Joan, I don't have words to convey what I want to say to you. I guess I will just have to let you know that my thoughts are with you, and I will pray for your strength, your healing, and all things good for you and yours.

Craig was one of the great ones. So talented, so smart, and somehow still humble and endlessly willing to share what he knew. He had this incredible gift for making the easy look hard and the hard look easy. Washing the car or the dog was a Herculean feat requiring knee pads and a helmet — but detailed video editing on a deadline, or calling a live show in real time with no rehearsal, was just Tuesday for Craig. Piece of cake. He was hilarious, with that deadpan delivery that would sneak up on you. And of course, there was the physical comedy he never had to try for — the man could trip while using a tape measure. Truly a gift. Underneath all that, he was genuinely sensitive and kind, and he worked harder than almost anyone I've known, clearly because he loved it. And the work loved Craig. He will be missed. His voice, his humor, and his heart. Sending love to Joni, Christopher, Melissa, and everyone who loved him.
