Annie Katherine Koester, of Prairie Village, Kansas, was born on June 3, 2015. Our beloved daughter, identical twin, and younger sister passed away on July 18, 2026, leaving behind a family and community forever changed by her love.
One of the first things people noticed about Annie was her radiant smile. Her bright smile was more than a beautiful feature—it reflected the joy, love, grit, and humor she shared so freely with everyone she met. Annie had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome and included. Beneath that smile was a determined spirit. She approached life with tenacity, never backing down from a challenge and always striving to do her very best.
Annie attended St. Ann Catholic School, where she loved being surrounded by her friends. Like everything she did, Annie worked diligently in school and was an excellent student. She treasured attending Catholic school, where she was able to grow in both knowledge and faith. Her favorite Bible verse was, "For nothing will be impossible with God." — Luke 1:37.
Soccer was one of Annie's greatest joys. She loved playing the game, but soccer was more than a sport to her—it was a place where her confidence, competitive spirit, and joyful energy came alive. She never backed away from a challenge on the field. Annie loved competing, encouraging her teammates, and proudly wore No. 8 for the KC Legends. Her dream was to play soccer at the University of Notre Dame alongside her twin sister, Millie. Together, they dreamed of one day playing professionally and representing the USWNT.
Annie was an endlessly curious child, and we find comfort in knowing she is now in a place where all of her questions have been answered.
Annie is survived by her loving parents, Mark and Katie,; her identical twin sister, Millie, older sister Caroline, her grandparents, Phil and Roxanne Spaeth, Doug and Suzanne Koester, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
