Apr 18, 1948---Feb 09, 2026

Daniel J. Trehey, Jr. 77, passed away on February 9, 2026, surrounded by his devoted children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle on Friday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m., followed by visitation. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery immediately following the services.

Daniel was born on April 18, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Daniel J. Trehey, Sr. and Mary McMahon Trehey. His parents taught him the importance of faith, family, and friendship—values that remained with him until his death. These principles formed the foundation for his happiness, success, and a well-lived life.

Dan grew up in the Cathedral neighborhood, surrounded by his cousins and lifelong friends.  The Cathedral steeple was visible from his home and served as the beacon of his childhood.  He attended St. Peter’s grade school and was a proud graduate of Bishop Ward High School class of 1966.

In 1966 he met his future wife, Beverly Milberger, and they married on August 17, 1968, beginning their shared journey through life.   Together, they raised three children, whom they considered their greatest accomplishment.   As he was raised in the Cathedral community, it was very important for him to continue that tradition for his children.  He took great pride in giving his children a Catholic education, along with celebrating their childhood sacraments, praying that these experiences would provide a strong foundation to guide them throughout their lives.  It was with profound grief that Beverly passed away four weeks before Dan on January 12, 2026 – Dan’s heart was shattered.

Dan was known for his exceptional work ethic - he was the hardest, most steadfast worker.  He never had any hobbies; work was his passion.  In 1966, while still working at Milgram’s, he went to work for Beverly’s mom and dad, at Milberger Pest Control.   He loved this line of work and in 1968, he ventured out to start Trehey Pest Control, which was a thriving and successful business up until he retired on November 3, 2025 – one of the most difficult things he ever had to do.

Although he owned and operated Trehey Pest Control, he aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a firefighter.  In 1978, he made the decision to pursue this career, and he cherished every single minute of it.  He took great pride in serving as a KCK firefighter and a member of IAFF 64.  As with everything in his life, he gave his job as a first responder his full commitment and dedication.  After 40+ years of dedicated service, Dan retired as a Battalion Chief from the KCKFD in December 2019.

Although work was very important to Dan, so was creating family memories and traditions.  One of the most important traditions was the annual family vacation to Table Rock Lake.  He wanted his children to enjoy their childhood and create lasting memories while they were young and carefree.   The anticipation and excitement planning and leading up to the getaway was almost as fun as the actual trip.  One of the most special memories for Beverly and Dan was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by bringing the entire family to Table Rock Lake for an extended weekend.  They were both in their element - surrounded by their favorite people at their happy place.

As empty nesters, Beverly and Dan continued their regular trips to Table Rock Lake and Branson, turning them into monthly excursions.  Of course, they would make an overnight pit stop to Downstream Casino on their way.  Beverly and Dan never left Branson or Downstream without having their next two or three getaways planned and booked.   They sure enjoyed this phase of their life together.  Sadly, it was cut short due to illness.

Dan was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Beverly (January 12, 2026), his wonderful parents, loving cousins and dear friends.  He is mourned by his daughter, Sheri Lynn Seeman (Albert); his sons, Daniel J. Trehey IV (Kathy), and Michael Edward Trehey; grandsons: David J. Seeman, John Victor Seeman, Daniel J. Trehey V, and Nicholas M. Trehey; as well as his sister, Mary Frances Ulmer.

Our family wishes to express sincere appreciation to these incredible people:  the Sisters, Servants of Mary, Mother Ema, Sister Elizabeth, Sister Maritza, Father Peter Jaramillo, Father Richard McDonald, Therese Horvat, Bridget Burns Vani, Sarah Kappelmann, Beverly Starks and Kieston Eidson.  We are deeply grateful to each of you for guiding our dad on his journey to Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters, Servants of Mary, The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, Holy Angels Catholic Church, or Bishop Ward High School.

So sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. He was a truly great man, and he will be deeply missed. I have so many memories of him and my grandfather showing up to holiday dinners while they were on shift at the FD. Later, throughout my own firefighting career, Dan was always there a mentor to so many of us on the department. After moving into the Piper Lake neighborhood, I’d drive by his house and see him sitting in the driveway, beer in hand. I’d stop to talk, and he always had stories & tales about him and my grandfather on the FD, and countless other firehouse memories. I always loved hearing them. I’ll miss those stories, and I’ll miss his wisdom. Prayers to you all during this difficult time.

Retired KCK Firefighter Local 64

To Dan's Family, He was always a husband and father first. He worked hard for his family to give them all that he could. As a KCKFD employee he gave his all to his community. He gave guidance to each and every rookie firefighter and they all appreciated this. A man of his word, he told it like it is, and the BBQ King of KCK. Hey Dude say hi to Beverly for us. We want to offer our sincere condolences to family and close friends of Dan. It has been a pleasure to call Dan and Bev neighbors for the past 10 years. Dan would do anything for you, all you need do is ask. Always having the best advice whether it was home or yard related he knew how to fix it, or knew someone else who could. We will miss seeing him on the driveway relaxing after mowing or just soaking up the sunshine. Rest in peace neighbor.

Good ole Stump. The long-time firefighter, who trained me on ladders as a rookie. The leader, who challenged me to be the first to go on the chair raise ladder exercise. The gentleman who always smiled and motioned my family and I to sit by him and his wife at mass on Sunday mornings. The friend and funny guy who loved to shoot the sh*t at the Union hall and gave me my Ladybug nickname. You were one of kind my friend and I will always remember you- thanks for showing me such kindness.
