Childhood friend ,Lenexa ,Kansas

I have known Mary Jean since I was five years old. From kindergarten to grade school, high school and college. I remember childhood memories of playing and visiting at the Winterman home in Milhaven. Mary Jean’s mom Ann was like my second mom. Our mom’s were very close due to their Croatian roots. I miss those times. I was devastated when Mary told me she had cancer a year ago. She was too young to be fighting a cancer diagnosis. I will miss her terribly but I know she’s not in pain anymore. God bless you! Patty (Vedros) Laven

Dear Winterman Family, Our hearts are sad to learn of Mary Jean's loss. We lived next door to your parents in Milhaven for many years and thru her visits home, came to know what a delightful and beautiful woman she was. At Christmas and Easter, she and your mom would make povitica and here they would come, delivering a loaf to us. When your Mom passed, Kurt and Mary Jean came in person to deliver that sad news. We will never forget that kindness. Be gentle with yourselves as you go about learning to live without her living presence. Her spirit will remain with you always. Fondly, Clarice & Lyle
