Lura Lu Gilliland (Daniels) passed from this life on January 19, 2026 at the age of 93.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 30, 2026 at Trinity Anglican Church, 3920 W. 63rd St., Prairie Village, KS.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetary in Ottawa, Kansas.  Lura was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Laura and Henry Daniels.  She began playing drums when she was 8 years old and played with Hosking Popeye Band and military bands.  Lura attended Turner High School and continued her education at Kansas State University.  Following graduation from Kansas State University, she taught elementary school for 10 years.  Following this, she was employed by the State of Kansas as a social worker for 30 years, retiring in this capacity in 1991.  She is a member of the Trinity Anglican Church, and the Kansas City St. Andrews Society.  Lura was married in 1958 to Robert Gilliland and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage.  Her cat, Joy, provided a great deal of company to her in her final years.  In lieu of flowers, it is suggested contributions be made the Trinity Anglican Church.  Arrangements: Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas  (913) 438-6444, www.porterfuneralhome.com.
