Jan 05, 1947---Jan 13, 2026

Carl Rider went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 13th, 2026.  He was married to his beloved wife, Cindy, for 56 adventure-filled years.

Carl was born on January 5, 1947, to Florence Grace and Merle W. Rider in Peoria, Illinois. He graduated from Arkansas City High School, Arkansas City, KS, in 1965. He graduated from Baylor University, Waco, TX, in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and minors in History and English.  He then received a Master of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977.

As a young boy, Carl made the decision to accept Jesus, God’s Son, as his personal Savior. At 18, he heard and accepted Christ’s call to share the wonderful news of Jesus as a minister. The message he shared was that God so loved each person that Jesus came to die on a cross paying for the sins of all. Since that sacrifice, anyone, everyone can receive the guarantee of eternity in God’s heaven through faith in Jesus.

Carl began his ministry in 1967 as Youth Minister and Associate Pastor of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson, TX, while still attending Baylor University. After graduation, Carl pastored churches in Texas, Kansas, and Colorado, including First Baptist Church, Reagan, TX; Coolidge Baptist Church, Coolidge, TX; First Southern Baptist Church, Eudora, KS; Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church, Aurora, CO; Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Blue River, CO; Princeton Baptist Church, Princeton, TX; and First Southern Baptist Church, Arkansas City, KS. He served first as Minister to Single Adults and later as Minister of Pastoral Care and Associate Pastor at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, TX. Carl and his wife, Cindy, also served as board-appointed missionaries with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in pioneer areas of the Colorado mountains. After retiring, Carl continued to teach Bible studies and Sunday School as well as serve as an interim pastor at Linn Valley Baptist Church, Linn Valley, KS. Carl’s ministry spanned 58 years.

Along with snow skiing and golfing, Carl enjoyed traveling with his wife to the Caribbean, England, Scotland, Wales, Rome, Venice, Greece, Split Croatia, Germany, and his favorite, Israel, twice. He also made multiple mission trips to China and Grenada, stopping in Malaysia and Barbados along the way.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother, Jack, and his sister, Kathleen. Carl is survived by his wife, Cindy; son Matthew Rider, daughter-in-law Jill; daughter Stephanie Kearbey, son-in-law Doug; grandson Bradley Rider and his wife, Abbey, and great granddaughters Charlotte and Delilah; grandson Brandon Rider; granddaughter Ashtyn Kearbey; granddaughter Hayley Rider; brother Charles Lyle and his wife, Linda; brother Gale Rider and his wife, Shirleyne; sister Raeauna Garnett-Sharrai and her husband, Rich; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 West 87th Street, Lenexa, KS 66219.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am.

Carl asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Lenexa Baptist Church Missions or Compassion International.

The things I remember most about Carl was his smile and light hearted demeanor. He was my single adult director at PPBC and a wonderful example of living a Christ-filled life (both he and Cindy). While he will be (is) missed down here, we know he is where he always yearned to be - with Jesus. Prayers, Cindy and family, for peace.

I can't put into words what Pastor Carl and Cindy mean to me. In a lifetime there are people that come into your life that make such a positive impact on you. Carl and Cindy are those people to me. I am sorry I cannot be there for the celebration of life but I will be there in spirit. I am praying for the family as they continue this next journey in life. Love.

Dearest Rider Family, I send my deepest and most sincere condolences on the departure of your beloved Carl and Daddy! My heart grieves with yours, and I am praying for your strength, peace, and comfort in this painful season. May God hold you all firmly in the mighty grip of his love and soothing Presence. Your family will always have a tender and divine place in my heart and mind - Carl's God-filled life (along with all of yours) changed mine for God's glory and my good. I will always praise and thank God for how he uses his children to transform his children. And I cherish warm memories of laugher, car trips, Nerf gun fights, Glorietta, Tic-Tacs, and monkey bread (which I learned from Cindy and make for my family every Christmas)! I know we will all see beloved Carl again. Until then, you have my true affection and heart-felt prayers! Monica

Pastor Carl will surely be up there on my list of loved ones that I expect to see standing there right behind Jesus as I enter the gates of heaven. He was that special to me. Pastor Carl is the reason we joined MABC. First, he made my dad promise that we would visit MABC before any other church when Mike and the kids and I moved to Colorado. So we did. And second, he had this wonderful way of making even the youngest feel loved and important. After church every single week, each child would stand in line at his desk to get a Tootsie Pop in exchange for a hug. He had such a gentle and soft-spoken way about him that there was never a child that didn’t run to get in line every week! Children loved him. And parents loved him. This weekly routine was wonderful for the kids to get to know their pastor, but it also allowed for time for families to linger in the foyer after church visiting with each other instead of rushing off to have lunch. I feel sure that he was aware of that benefit. He will certainly be missed here on earth, but boy oh boy… Heaven just got a lot more fun as he stepped in. God bless you Cindy and family. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Our years in Aurora CO raising our two girls Allison and Natalie are some of our best memories and most of those memories include Pastor Carl. He and Cynthia were always kind and generous and fun! Waiting in line for a tootsie pop and a hug after church was the way each Sunday service ended for all the kids. Carl touched so many lives and we are all better for knowing him. He shared his faith in his Bible teaching and in the way he lived his life. We send our condolences and love to all the Rider family. You have a place in our hearts.

Carl was one of my greatest mentors. He guided me through my call to ministry and helped me begin my life as a pastor. He performed my wedding and serves as my picture as an ideal pastor. Watching him in action as a young man, I was always impressed at his tact, compassion, and professionalism. I rejoice he is with Christ.
