Oct 31, 1966---Nov 25, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maureen Ann Huckaby, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was a beautiful quilt of faith, love, and intention.

She was born in Panama City, Panama, to Thomas Anthony Royal and Irma Ann Royal. They made Kansas City their home since 1974.

Maureen graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School with the class of 1984. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1991. She then graduated from UMKC with a Master of Social Work. Most recently, she graduated from Western Governors University with a Master of Business Administration.

During Maureen’s life, she worked at Michael E. Coughlin, CPA, Neff Printing, and an internship with United Cerebral Palsy. She spent seventeen years at UMKC, and the last six years she has been at Children’s Mercy Hospital. While at CMH, she was promoted to Director of Research Accounting. She was a cherished coworker and mentor and became lifelong friends with many of them.

Maureen lived each day with purpose and grace, guided by her deep faith and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Her vision boards told the story of a woman who believed in the power of hope, compassion, and human connection. She understood that life's greatest treasures weren't found in possessions but in the relationships she nurtured and the lives she touched.

A woman of profound faith, Maureen found strength in prayer and shared that spiritual foundation with everyone around her. She believed in taking time to breathe, to be present, and to show love and empathy to all who crossed her path. Her gentle reminders to "begin," to embrace each new day with intention, and to have faith even in difficult times, inspired countless people throughout her life.

Maureen's heart overflowed with love for her family and friends. She cherished gathering loved ones together, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and joy. Her home was a sanctuary where everyone felt welcomed, valued, and cared for. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen and heard, offering comfort to those in need and celebrating life's simple blessings.

Her legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. She taught us that with faith, intention, and an open heart, we can make each moment meaningful and touch countless lives along the way.

Maureen will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Kevin Stuart Huckaby; son, Joe Hannoun; daughters, Sara (Justin) Walden and Liz Hannoun; grandchildren, Charlie and Addie Walden; her sister, Diane (Scott) Getz; her nephew, Zach (Laura Polucha) Getz; nieces, Paige and Mackenzie Getz. She was preceded in death by her father (Thomas Royal), mother (Irma Brown Royal), and brother (Thomas Anthony Royal Jr.). All who met her were blessed to know her. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing she lived a life full of purpose, love, and faith—exactly as she intended.

“Faith, Love, and Intention" - The guiding principles of a life beautifully lived.

My heart is breaking, yet I take comfort knowing we will enjoy her company again one day in Heaven. I will miss her kind and gentle spirt, her friendship and encouragement, her thoughtfulness and love for others, video calls where I got to say hello to her sweet granddaughter, and the positivity she brought to Children's Mercy. Rest in peace.

My heart is so sadden by the loss of a truly terrific human being. Maureen encompassed the most genuine qualities of anyone I’ve met. She genuinely cared about everyone in her circle. She would go above and beyond with zero hesitation to help if you needed it. When I think of Maureen, I think ‘helper’ with a heart of gold. She will be so missed, the hole this leaves in our CMH family is huge. I am thinking of all my co-workers and especially of Maureen’s family during this time. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

There are not enough words to describe what Maureen was to so many. Im sending all my love to those left behind. Kevin, Sara and Family, Joe, Liz - I think about you all everyday and hope over time you find solace in the "seeds" she has planted for you over the years. I would tell her she is a master farmer, planting seeds of advice and love everywhere she went and then equipping us with the tools to nourish and water those seeds. I loved her so so much and miss her terribly. Hugs to the family

Maureen always had a way of knowing what everyone on our team needed exactly when they needed it. She helped put pressures into perspective for us to truly see what mattered. I will miss her endless cheerleading, her calm demeanor and her insistence that a tequila shot could fix any hard day. I will work every day to live up to the potential she saw in me and help others achieve their potential as well. I'll miss you, my boss, my friend.

Maureen reached out to me the minute I publicly whined about being on chemo. I told her then that her posts about Liz gave me a hero to model. She was so lovely about me saying that. It could have been word. She made it not so. We spent a night at the lantern festival and it was glorious. I know she’s hanging out in flickering heavens watching out for everyone she drew near.

There are no words to express my sorrow and heartbreak. Maureen was the most genuine, kindest, compassionate and giving person I have ever met. She will be missed by all who knew her. I am thankful for her friendship for she truly made the world a better place. My deepest condolences go to Kevin, her children and grandchildren. She loved you deeply. Her love will live on through you.
