George Piette, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on March 31, 1938, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, to Florence and Adrien Piette, George spent his early years in Attleboro, before entering the Army National Guard, and then the Air Force in 1960.
Shortly after entering the Air Force, George met the love of his life, Ann Cameron, when she crossed the dance floor to ask him to dance. Ann and George were married on May 19, 1962, and spent 63 beautiful years together.
George served his country for 22 years, including serving in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1980, George moved back to the Kansas City area with his family and enjoyed working as a manager over site installations of office modular systems.
George believed deeply in serving others. After serving his country faithfully, he continued to be defined by his compassion for others, and supported many charitable causes throughout his life. Among those closest to his heart were St Jude’s Hospital and Disabled Veterans of America. He supported many others, too numerous to list here.
For several years, he was a volunteer for the Kansas City VA Medical Center transporting disabled veterans to their appointments at the hospital.
George loved spending time fishing when he could, enjoyed watching football and baseball, and was an avid reader all his life, surrounded by books he wanted to read. He had a reknowned sweet tooth, and delighted in nightly treats after dinner.
His greatest love though, was spending time with his family - Saturday date nights with Ann, and visits with his children Lisa and Mark and their families.
Later in life, George enjoyed poker nights with the “guys”, became a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, and participated in his local VFW chapter.
George was preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Peter, and his parents Adrien and Florence. He is survived by his devoted wife Ann, and their children Lisa(Don)Kopitke and Mark(Jennifer)Piette. He was a proud grandfather to Melanie(Colby), Emily(Anthony), Danny(Jacqueline), Adam(Rachel), and Andrew, and great-grandfather to Finn George. He also leaves his brother John, and sister Adrienne, and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.
A man of deep faith, George’s kind and compassionate heart drew people to him wherever he was. His great sense of humor drew from all things in life, but always with a touch of love and respect. His friends were legion, and those who loved him, many. We will miss him greatly.
His family would like to thank all of his amazing caregivers who treated him with dignity, respect, and compassion; those who cared for him at the home and especially at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.
Visitation is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 8th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 West 92nd Street, Lenexa, Kansas, with Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. Following a luncheon at the church, burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, 6115 Quivira Road, Shawnee, Kansas, 66216.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Disabled American Veterans.
