Aug 16, 1949---Apr 24, 2025

Steven Lee Ferris, Basehor, KS began his journey in the afterlife on Thursday, April 24, 2025.  He was born on August 16, 1949.  He was 75 years young at the time of his passing and had been extremely healthy up until the two weeks prior to his death.

Steve and his two sisters, Janet and Connie spent their early years in the first Ferris family home at 1024 Reynolds in Kansas City, KS. Steve was the second of four children and spent his childhood enjoying playing baseball, Boy Scouts, playing the guitar, singing, hunting and spending time on the family farm outside of Eskridge, KS. Steve would pass on all these childhood passions to his little brother, Ron.

Steve graduated from Washington High School, Kansas City, KS in 1967 and soon thereafter began a career in Information Technologies with long stints at Isen Mercantile, Overland Park, KS and as IT Director at McCall Patterns, Manhattan, KS. During this portion of his career he often worked weekends building residential decks and other residential remodeling projects for extra income. Steve’s passion for carpentry continued the Ferris family tradition of carpenters into a 4th generation. During this same period he sang with Arlon Meek forming a duo called The Sidekicks. The duo provided entertainment at many night clubs throughout central Kansas for more than a decade.

When McCall Patterns eventually closed its doors, Steve and his wife Jane Ehret Ferris were presented with an opportunity to move closer to family in the Kansas City area. They chose Basehor, KS as their new home. Steve and his brother Ron went to work as Jobsite Superintendents for KBS Constructors and then later Nabholz Construction. Steve and Ron both retired from Nabholz in the last few years.

Even in retirement, it was Steve that would come to the rescue for family and friends that needed something fixed. In retirement he also found a passion for golf and had actually played 18 holes the day before he suffered a massive stroke.

Steve leaves behind his wife, Susan Jane Ehret Ferris; his children Stephen Ferris and Heather Ferris (Todd Polda), Jennifer Baker (Michael), Jill Burgess, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, sisters Janet Banker (Doug), Connie Nelson (Brad), brother Ron (Joyce – deceased), many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A private family memorial service will be held at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, KS (www.porterfuneralhome.com) on Thursday, May 1st. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Steve’s name to:

We have been neighbors of Steve and Jane for 18 years. So comforting to know they were across the street. Many driveway conversations! Steve and Dean, both quick witted, had many fun exhanges. Will miss his smile. So many thoughts and prayers for Jane, Ron and the girls.

Steve and I have been friends since the first grade. We played baseball together and were both in the Boy Scouts. A life long friend and my " ditch digging buddy " . I will always share the memories we had.
