LENEXA, KS – Francis Leonard McElgunn, age 87, living in Lenexa, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS.
Francis was born on March 8, 1938, in Spearville, Kansas to Francis and Esther (Shawe) McElgunn. He attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and graduated from St. Mary of the Plains High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960, and was stationed in Milton, Florida. Upon leaving the service, Francis returned to Dodge City, going to work for Coors distributor, Stickney Sales, Inc. In 1992, along with Richard Strecker and Tom Stickney, he acquired the business (then Coors of the Southwest), and continued as the “Coors Man of Southwest, KS” until 2012.
On April 4, 1959, he married Margaret Ann “Peggy” Hall at Dodge City, which became a union of sixty-six years, and Peggy survives his passing. He is also survived by five children, sons Chris McElgunn (Gayla) of Wichita, KS; Kevin McElgunn (Carol) of Midland MI; Brian McElgunn (Nancy) of Hutchinson, KS; and daughters Gina Tenbrink (Alan) of Lenexa, KS; Lori McElgunn ( Michael Converse) of Kansas City, MO. He also leaves grandchildren, Erin, Sean, Kari, Mara, Patrick, Mary, Anne, Molly, Eli, Andrew, Emily and Owen, and great-grandchildren, Kaid, Dash, Piper, Corbin, Ember, Isla and Jack.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers , Richard “Mac” McElgunn, Gerald “Jerry Mac” McElgunn, sisters, Mary Delores McElgunn and Kathleen McElgunn, uncle, Paul McElgunn, and granddaughter, Megan McElgunn.
Rosary will be at 9:30 am, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75 th St., Shawnee, KS, followed by visitation and funeral mass at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa.
