Feb 14, 1941---Mar 05, 2025

Brenda Sue Cook, 84, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away March 5, 2025.

A visitation will be held from 10-10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2025 with services following at 10:30 a.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, Kansas.

Brenda was born February 14, 1941 in Lockwood, Missouri, daughter of Andrew John Harris and Beryl Divine Harris.  The family lived in Ash Grove, MO most of Brenda's early childhood then relocated to Kansas City, KS where she graduated from Washington high school in 1959.

After graduation, Brenda went to work for TWA as a litigation assistant.

In 1961, Brenda met her husband, William McCarty Cook, at a lawyers' Christmas party. They were married the following year and had two daughters, Stacey and Dana.  Bill and Brenda settled in Kansas City, KS where Bill practiced law and was soon appointed Wyandotte County District Court judge.  Brenda was a dedicated housewife and mother when her daughters were young.  Later, she also enjoyed a rewarding 15 year career as a successful real estate agent.

When Bill retired, the couple built a house at Linn Valley Lakes and enjoyed 10 years of lake life before eventually moving to Lenexa, KS to be near their daughters and grandchildren.

Brenda especially loved her granddaughters and she was a devoted and generous wife, mother and grandmother.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Bill.   She is survived by her daughters, Stacey Dungan and Dana Cook, her grandchildren, Morgan Rainey (spouse Michael Clark), Kelley Dungan and Rory Dungan, her brother, Jon Harris, and numerous nephews.

Brenda, I cherished the moments we shared, especially those early morning coffee rituals that brought warmth and connection to our days. Stacy, your trust in me to care for your mother is something I deeply appreciate; her presence will always be remembered. As Scripture reminds us in Philippians 1:3, "I thank my God every time I remember you." You both hold a special place in my heart.
