Lawrence Joseph Lane passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 27, 1936, in Topeka, Kansas, Larry was raised in Delia, Kansas, a place he spoke of often and held dear to his heart. A natural storyteller, he loved sharing memories and experiences, many of which became cherished family tales.
Larry built a successful career in information technology sales, but beyond his professional life, he found joy in golfing with friends from the neighborhood. After retiring, he dedicated much of his time to volunteer work at Overland Park Regional Hospital, where he especially enjoyed working in the maternity ward. He was a founding brother of the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus Council. He was also an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a parish he and his wife Virginia (Mom ) helped establish. One of his favorite activities was assisting with the church’s fish fries, where he tirelessly peeled thousands of potatoes.
A devoted husband and father, Larry provided his family with a warm and loving home, instilling strong values and a deep sense of togetherness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Virginia “Babe” Lane, and their children: John Lane and Kelly Hart, Dennis Lane, Paul Lane and Jim Harralson, Mary (Lane) and Chris Burian, and Peter and Monica Lane. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren—Jacob Hart-Lane; Brenna and Andrew Miller, Fiona Dougan, Sorina “Max” Burian; and Emma, Peter Michael Jr, Lucie, Matthew, and Ethan Lane—as well as his great-grandson, Dougan James Miller.
Larry’s love, wisdom, and storytelling will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
