Mark Stephen Collins, 69, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away March 3, 2025. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. with visitation following until 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 10, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66208.  The Funeral Liturgy will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS.

Mark was born September 15, 1955, in Kansas City, KS, the fourth son of John and Mary Collins. Mark graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1973 an attended Washburn University in Topeka, KS, where he graduated in 1977 with degrees in philosophy and political science. Mark went on to attend Washburn School of Law, graduating in 1980. He passed the Kansas Bar Exam in September 1980 and went on active duty with the Air Force in November 1980 as a member of the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG). Mark left active duty in 1984 but continued his Air Force career through the reserves and the Kansas Air National Guard until his retirement in November 2008. During his Air Force career, among others, Mark participated in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Nobel Eagle. Mark was a blood donor and volunteered at St. Ann’s for the Support the Troops, which boxed food and toiletries for the Troops.

Mark and Elaine were married on May 26, 1979 and went on to raise three wonderful children: Amy, Matthew, and Marianne. Mark leaves grandchildren: Brooke, Amaya, William, Ayden, and Patrick.

Memorial funds may be sent to St. Ann’s Makers, Support the Troops, or Catholic Community Health.

To know Mark was to know a great man. I met him in 1976 when I married his brother. He was a college student and spent weekends with us. Mark was quiet but loved to debate with his siblings about any and everything. He was so devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be so missed and never forgotten. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Cousin

I remember going to Grandma Totorilla's to visit. While there a trip to Aunt Mary and Uncle John's meant spending the day with Mark playing and working at the store, behind the candy counter. Great memories. I'm sure he will be missed by his family. Thoughts and prayers to all.

My most sincere condolences to Elaine and Mark’s family. He was a fellow cadet at Washburn. I remember that he was in Kappa Sigma fraternity. I was a fellow Greek, but was in the Alpha Delta for Charity. He was quiet, but professional, and always seemed to have it all together. I met up with him again in the late 80s when he and I were both members of the air guard at Topeka. RIP Mark!!
