Jun 29, 1969---Feb 03, 2025

Andrew Michael Gafney, age 55, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away Monday, February 3, 2025 at the University of Kansas Medical Center after a brief illness.  Andy was born June 29, 1969, in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Michael and Janet Gafney.

He is survived by his daughter, Abigail Gafney, sister Jenny Martin, brother in-law Jeff Martin, and nephews Chad Martin and Tyler Martin.

Andy was a Civil Engineer working as a Quality Control Manager at SGS, LLC. He worked at many different job sites across the country but always made sure to make frequent trips home to spend time with family and friends.

An avid KU Jayhawks Basketball and Chiefs Football fan, Andy hosted watch parties at his home.  No matter who was playing, the Super Bowl gatherings were an annual event involving multiple televisions, high-definition speakers, and bratwursts that had been marinating for days in specialty Irish beer. Andy had a wide taste in music and prided himself on collecting and listening to vinyl records often commenting he liked the “natural” sound of the needle as it circled around.

He leaves behind a village of best friends who, together with Andy and Abby, celebrated holidays in many homes and always with hearty meals and pints.

Visitation will be Monday, February 10th at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd St., Lenexa, KS 66215.  Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to join us in the procession to the cemetery and gravesite services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Abigail’s college fund, in care of Jennifer Martin sent to Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215, or Harvesters, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
