Jun 10, 1946---Jan 24, 2025

Linda Mary Morgovnik, 78, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025. She was born on June 10, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, to Dr. Robert and Marjorie Breitenstein Braunsdorf. Linda graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka, Kansas, and earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Washburn University. During her final undergraduate year, she spent four months student teaching in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico.

Linda dedicated 39 years to teaching, spending most of her career as a first-grade teacher. She taught for 11 years in Topeka, Kansas, 13 years in Alexandria, Virginia, and 15 years at Sunflower Elementary in Gardner, Kansas. In 2003, she was honored as the Gardner-Edgerton School District Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Linda's love for teaching was evident in her classroom, where she inspired her students to develop a love for learning. She often said, "All kids are gifted; some just open their packages earlier than others." Her legacy lives on in the countless students whose lives she touched.

Linda was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Robert and Marjorie Braunsdorf and brothers David and Richard (Dick) Braunsdorf.

Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years Francis (Frank) Morgovnik; daughter Karen (Michael) Tine; son Michael (Lisa Shin) Morgovnik; daughter Susan (Angel) Garcia; and brother Paul Braunsdorf (Peg).

A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. with Funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66214.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of this fine woman. Linda was one of the best human beings I had the privilege to meet and teach with. She was a mentor to me and inspired Me to be a better teacher and person! Linda was my son Daniel’s favorite elementary school teacher, at Washington Mill School, where he was a student for 6 years and I taught for 15 years. We talked a little over a year ago and laughed like school girls as we reminisced about our teaching days. She is free now, but I know your hearts are aching. I will pray for all of you to find some peace and comfort in this sad time. I really appreciate that you let me know. Sending love to all of Linda’s family

Our sincerest condolences to the family. Linda had a lot of smiles and stories of her teaching career. It was always a delight to hear them. Probably a favorite, is that she taught Bubba Starling , a former KC Royal, and she was very proud of that. During the years of Bunco, Linda would have a great joke to tell to begin our evening of laughter and fun times. We will miss her smile, jokes and laughter, but those will always be great memories of her. You are no longer in pain. May you rest in peace. Brad and Diane Thoman

Many of us went to Assumption and Hayden with Linda. She was a kind and good person who set a saintly example of how we should each treat one another. I remember her calm personality and caring nature. I’m certain she lived her entire this way. Prayers for those she leaves behind. She made a difference for others she interacted with. A life well lived.
