May 10, 1951---Dec 04, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Janelle Kay Terrill, on December 4, 2024 at the age of 73. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Gary Raymond Terrill.

She was born in Larned, Kansas on May 10, 1951. Janelle was the youngest daughter of Ralph and Lois Dick (Fairchild) and sister to Barbara Ludlow (Dick). She was a lifelong learner and someone who always valued higher education—she was proud to have graduated from Barton County Community College. Janelle moved from her small hometown of Larned to the state capital of Topeka shortly after graduating college. Janelle would go on to work for the state treasury department as well as other divisions of the state. This instilled a lifelong passion for public service, politics, and she loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen.

Janelle and Gary Terrill first met while both working at the Kansas Appellate Courts and bonded over their mutual appreciation for politics and continued to share this throughout their long and happy marriage. They were married in Ottawa, Kansas in 1981 and welcomed their first daughter, Laura Ann Powell (Terrill) in 1983. Janelle doted on her three nieces, Shelly Dacamara (Ludlow), Shela Stewart (Ludlow), and Kelly Tippie (Ludlow) and was thrilled about having a daughter of her own. In 1986, Janelle and Gary welcomed a second daughter, Mariel Terrill. They felt their family was complete. They moved to Lenexa, Kansas where they adoringly raised their two little girls.

She leaves behind her husband Gary Terrill, two daughters Laura Powell (Lee) and Mariel Terrill (fiancé Johnny Martinez), and a five-year-old granddaughter Brooklynn Mae Powell (Lee and Laura Powell). She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Lois Dick as well as her only sister Barbara Ludlow (Dick).

A celebration of life service will be held at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 10am (visitation from 9am-10am). All friends and family are welcomed and appreciated. The family asks that donations to The Epilepsy Foundation and Heart of American Humane Society be made instead of flowers or other gifts.

My sincere sympathy for Gary, Laura and Mariel on the passing of Janelle. I worked with Janelle at the Oak Park Macy's between 2014 and 2020, where she welcomed me as I came from the closed Metcalf South store. Janelle was sweet as could be, super nice and helpful to our customers; but she also had a dry sense of humor that I really appreciated. She has been missed at the store.
