Janet Suzanne Blessing of Overland Park, KS passed away on December 2, 2024 in Overland Park, Kansas. Born 1941 in Holton, KS to Edward and Marie Kenny, Janet moved to the Kansas City area as a child and spent her childhood in Fairway, KS.
Survived by sons Chris (Brenda) Blessing, Andrew Blessing, grandchildren Matt Blessing and Allison Blessing, and sisters Pam (Mike) Foster and Ann (Chuck) Ripp, and cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Mike Blessing, to whom she was married for 57 years. Mike and Janet loved and supported each other in good times and challenging times, always approaching life as a team.
Janet graduated from Bishop Miege High School in Fairway, KS and then Benedictine College in Atchison, KS with a degree in Dietetics. Janet spent her career helping others as a registered dietitian, working in hospitals and consulting in medical facilities. Her career included public speaking, education and even a weekly segment on television to share healthy eating tips. Her motto was that “all food is good in moderation.”
She drew strength and comfort from her many friends and also by attending daily morning mass, weekly adoration and volunteering at church. But her most important vocation was her family whom she loved very much. She was especially proud of her sons and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking a weekly Sunday lunch for her family.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and support staff at Saint Luke’s South Hospital and Olathe Hospice for their professionalism and kindness during Janet’s hospitalizations and home hospice care.
