Terry Dean Isenberg, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on November 8, 2024.
He was born January 14, 1943, in Pontiac, Illinois, the sixth child of Emmons Sr. and Ruth (Haile) Isenberg. He was named after Major League Baseball Hall of Famers Bill Terry and Dizzy Dean. Terry grew up in the Village of Saunemin, Illinois, where he attended public schools and had many friends. He always remembered how kind many people were to him and his mother after the sudden death of his father when he was just eight years old. His much-older siblings and their spouses were also always very good to Terry while he was growing up and throughout their lives.
Terry was a star athlete in high school, earning All-Conference honors in both football and basketball. He scored 40 points in his final basketball game in 1961, and he always said if there were a three-point line at that time his total would have been closer to 50.
Terry attended Illinois Wesleyan University and proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Italy for three years during the Vietnam War era. He was awarded a Certificate of Achievement upon conclusion of his active duty. Terry was very proud of those in the Isenberg family and in-laws who served in the military, with their service spanning every war and conflict from the Revolutionary War through the most current conflicts.
Terry married the former Anna Siara in Chicago in 1972, and they spent 52 years of wedded bliss. She gave him three fine sons, and she was very good for him and to him. He loved her very much.
Terry worked in the insurance industry for nearly 40 years, in the fields of auditing, accounting and finance; beginning in Chicago, then New York City, before finally relocating to Kansas in 1985. He retired from the former Employers Reinsurance Corporation in 2003.
Terry very much enjoyed retirement. Golfing, when the weather permitted, with his many friends at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course, often three or four times a week; trips to Las Vegas, and spending winters in Arizona. But most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Terry was very proud of his sons and their families. Terry was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, and he was thrilled to celebrate with his family when the Cubs broke a 108-year drought, winning the 2016 World Series.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmons Sr. and Ruth Isenberg; sisters Louise Reeder, Kathryn Smith, JoAnn Dempsey and June Gray; brother Emmons Jr; brothers-in-law John Reeder, Joseph Smith, Richard Dempsey and Walter Gray; sister-in-law Shay; nieces JoAnn Dodson and Carly Reeder; nephew Tim Isenberg; and parents-in-law Joseph and Maria Siara, and sister-in-law Helen Siara.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anna, sons Daniel (Brianna), Thomas (Alise) and Steven (Rhiannon); grandchildren Matthew, Dominic, Alexis, Emma, Joseph, Lukas, Lily, Ava, Liam and Violet; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and their families.
Terry wanted to be remembered as someone who tried very hard to be a good Christian; someone who was charitable and patriotic, and who loved very much not only his immediate family but the entire Isenberg and Siara families.
Services are Thursday, November 21 at Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, KS. Visitation at 9:30am, followed by funeral service at 10:30am. Graveside service burial with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
