Phyllis Margaret Bartlett, 95, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024 in her apartment at Kingswood Senior Living.
Phyllis was born March 23, 1929 in Fullerton, California, to Edward and Helen Connelly. She grew up in California and graduated from Stanford University.
She taught in elementary schools in San Mateo, CA, Kansas City, MO, and Raytown, MO.
She met Ken Bartlett when he was in the Navy and stationed in San Francisco at the end of World War II. They were married in 1952 and moved to Ken’s hometown of Kansas City MO.
During their many years together, Phyllis and Ken enjoyed traveling the world, including trips to visit family in Scotland, where her parents were born and raised. Phyllis always enjoyed hearing a good bagpipe, and was pleased to be serenaded by a bagpiper for her 90th and 95th birthdays.
She played bridge throughout her life, and was still playing, and winning, into her nineties. She was a crossword puzzle aficianado, an avid Royals, Chiefs, and Sporting Kansas City fan, and loved hosting family at the holidays.
She was a long time member of Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by Ken, her husband of 67 years, and her brother David Connelly. She is survived by her three children, David Bartlett (Janet),Nancy Bartlett (Steve Hiotis), Carol Swezy, and four granddaughters (Sara, Rachel, Sophie, and Audrey).
Phyllis asked that there not be a formal funeral service. Her ashes, along with Ken’s, will be scattered, as they requested, in her favorite “piney woods.”
Memorial contributions can be made to Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church.
