Helen L. Gabbert, 90, of Lenexa, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Westchester Village of Lenexa.

Helen was born August 9, 1934, to Regina and John Schehrer in Eudora Kansas.

She married Paul C. Gabbert on July 4, 1958, in Eudora, Kansas. They lived in Topeka Kansas where she was employed in the finance industry.  They eventually moved to Lenexa where she continued in finance and various small jobs over the years.

She loved playing dominoes and card games and as well bingo.  She was an avid, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan.  She enjoyed any opportunity to portray her persona as “The Red Hat Lady”  as well any chance for a trip to the casino. She loved telling stories of life on the farm as a small girl.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Doug and (Ken) of Kansas City Mo, Curt and (Tamara) of Olathe Kansas; 3 grandsons James and (Heather) Gabbert of Leavenworth Kansas, Michael and Jon Gabbert of Olathe Kansas and 2 great grandchildren Silas and Aanaleigh Gabbert, sisters, Maryann Nicolay of Olathe Kansas, Betty (Don) Newhouse Shawnee Kansas and Brother Robert Schehrer of Lawrence Kansas; and many nieces and nephews and great/great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Regina Schehrer; husband Paul Gabbert, her brother in law Rex Nicolay, sister in law Madeline Schehrer, nephew Mark Nicolay and great nephew Jacob Nicolay.

Rosary will be at 5:00 P.M. followed by the visitation till 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, KS. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa, KS.  Memorial contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice.
