Barbara Louise Wilson, 91, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away peacefully Wednesday September 18th, 2024 at the Saint Luke’s Hospice House.

Barbara was born January 27, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of the late Constance E. Heath. She moved to Shawnee, Kansas in 1965. Prior to being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, she worked for Inter-Collegiate Press working on high school yearbooks, retiring in the early 1970’s. In 1978 she began traveling with her late husband, who worked for Tom Martin Construction. They spent weekends down at their beloved lake home in Warsaw, MO, boating, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Together they enjoyed traveling all over the United States, and eventually bought a home at Snow to Sun Resort, in Weslaco, Texas. For many years they split their time living in Weslaco, TX enjoying the warm weather during the winter months, before returning to Shawnee, KS for the summer months. Barbara was a faithful member of the VFW Axillary, and True Kindred.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas E. Wilson, mother Constance E. Heath, brothers Donald (Beverly) Cole, James (Ellen) Cole, William (Margaret) Cole, David Cole, sisters Edith (Paul) Merritt, and Sandra Cole.

She is survived by her only daughter Karen Turley, and her husband Kenith Turley of Shawnee, KS; granddaughters Katherine Turley of Gardner, KS; Kristin (Alexander) Dinkel of Lenexa, KS; great granddaughter Payton Parker, great grandson Rhett Wilson Dinkel, brother Gerald “Jerry” (Wanda) Cole of Shawnee, KS, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M Monday September 23, 2024 at Porter Funeral Homes in Lenexa, KS with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. – 11:00 A.M prior to the funeral.

The family is deeply grateful to all the nurses, physicians, and staff at the Saint Luke’s Hospice House who provided kind support, and tender care to Barbara and family during her final days.
