May 20, 1932---Sep 04, 2024

Mary Eileen McGourty was peacefully welcomed into the arms of the Lord on September 4, 2024.

Mary was born along with her twin sister Gloria on May 20, 1932, to Clara and John Miller. She is preceded in death by brother Jim Miller, and sisters Gloria, Patricia and Diane. She is survived by her sister Katheleen (Tom) and her brothers Robert (Diane) and John.

After graduating from Northeastern High School, she trained and became a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital. It was the start of a lifelong love of nursing.

Love and Fate also stepped in when she met William McGourty, an Air Force Sergeant. In 1955 they were married in Kansas City and relocated to the Boston area.

Together they raised six children. She is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Ann and is survived by George, John, Karen, Katheleen and William.

At the time of her passing Mary had eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren as well as a large extended family.

After a 30 year career as an emergency room nurse, she enjoyed retirement with her husband Bill until his passing in July of 1998.

Mary continued to live in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Florida before returning to her hometown roots and residing at Tallgrass Creek in Overland Park. She enjoyed her final years in the company of family and friends.

Mary is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and mentor. She loved to laugh and had an infectious smile. She continued to help people after her nursing career, particularly her work with Catholic Charities.

After a visitation at 10:00 am, service of remembrance and Mass at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Leawood, KS on September 17, she will return to Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose, Massachusetts to lie in Peace next to her beloved husband.

In lieu of the flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Ascend Hospice or St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Charities.
