Mary was committed to her deepest values: faith, family, and friendship. Her devotion to her Catholic faith and loving her family and friends well will be one of her greatest legacies. She was a committed wife; Mary and Joe would have celebrated 50 years of marriage next year. She was a wonderful wife, mom, sister, and friend, but her role as a grandma was her greatest joy.

Mary was adored for bringing joy everywhere she went. She loved people, and no matter the season of her life or work, she smiled and brought positivity to everything she did. She was born and raised in Wichita, KS and attended St. Joseph Elementary and Sacred Heart Academy. She spent her 20’s living out her dream of being a flight attendant and flew until her and her husband Joe had their first child. She spent the next 45+ years raising children, volunteering at Holy Trinity Catholic school, and participating in various organizations with the church including St. Monica’s circle. Mary was a bone marrow transplant survivor and was an encouraging mentor to many patients at KU Cancer Center. Mary lived with joy and faith; you could always count on her for a helping hand and a great hug.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Gertrude Schwartzman, and her father and mother in law, Peter and Natalina Roccasalva. She was the beloved wife of Joe Roccasalva; loving mother of Stephanie, Staci, and Damen Roccasalva; cherished grandmother of Logan, Annie, and Luke Roccasalva, and Sami Valleroy; dear sister of Janie Dodd and Gene Schwartzman, and aunt of several nieces and nephews.

My heart is breaking for your loss! Mary V was a very special person. She always lit up a room with her joy and kindness & humor. I am so sorry she was taken from you prematurely. But I cannot blame God for taking her home to Heaven. No doubt she is lighting up Heaven now! Hugs to you all!!! Margie Berry

Dear Joe, Stephanie, Stacy and Damen, Regretfully, we did not know Mary passed away until we saw in St. Anthony's bulletin at the lake that a mass will be offered for her this Wed. We pray you will always be comforted by her joyful spirit, the remembrance of her laugh and smile and fun personality she always had. Mark and I will forever have fond memories of the openness of our neighbor across the street (Muff), the Friday wine tastings on the curb for moms, the Halloween and Christmas parties in the culdesac, Pinochle gatherings, and the care and love she had for everyone's kids. She was so special. May she be welcomed into heaven by the angels! St. Mary, pray for us.
