Aug 20, 1963---Jun 27, 2024

Michael Patrick Dorian, 60, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024.  Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 AMfollowed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155.  Entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kansas City, KS.  In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice

Mike was born August 20, 1963, in Kansas City, KS to Robert and Carol (Ryan) Dorian.  He attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and was a 1981 graduate of Bishop Ward High School, participating in football, wrestling, and baseball. While working at DST, Mike met co-worker, Rebecca A Poteet and toId his friends, "I'm going to marry that girl."  And in true fashion, in October 1991, they got married at Blessed Sacrament and they had two sons, Ryan Michael Dorian (26) and Shane Patrick Dorian (20).
From the beginning, Mike and Becky shared "real" goals - a real house, a real dog, a real Christmas tree, and real kids.  Mike enjoyed helping his brother coach his nephews' baseball team.  The love of the game brought him to later coach Ryan's Nationals baseball teams for many seasons. Mike also volunteered his time to the boys’ Northland Longhorns and Necco Raiders football clubs, maintaining and storing the players' safety equipment. He was an award winning BBQ Smoker, competing under team name Smokin' Dads, with members consisting of high school friends and later with Becky's dad.  It is through all of these activities that Mike and Becky have met so many people that remain friends to this day.  Mike also enjoyed tinkering - working on the yard, messing around in the garage, or doing small engine repairs.  When Mike was not busy, he always enjoyed listening to country music, watching the Royals, Chiefs, KU basketball, and old western movies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws John and Eva Lea, siblings Patti and Tim, nieces Molly and Erin, and nephew Bobby, Mike is survived by his wife Becky, sons Ryan & Shane, sister Paula and many extended family and friends.  The family asks that during the next several days, please take a moment to embrace the ones you love just a little longer and remind them how much you love them.  Mike will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the sound of his laughter will remain in our hearts.  Please tip your hat to Coach Dorian and raise a beer in his remembrance.

Hi Becky, I’m so sorry to have heard of Mike’s passing from Jimmy Rand. Mike was my supervisor for years but more importantly, he was a good friend. Mike always looked out for his employees. We started in the mailroom together then on to Computer Services. We played softball together, we laughed together & hung out together. I have very fond memories of Mr “D”! Know that I’m praying for you, the children & his family.

Becky, I had the pleasure of seeing Mike every morning on his way up to his office. I was constantly teasing him about being a Jay Hawk fan! Me being from Kentucky. He will be greatly missed. Sending you and your boys hugs and thinking of you all as you go through such a difficult time. Rest in Peace, Mike. Your Friend, Kathy

Becky, Ryan and Shane, I have so many great memories of Mike... Lots of hours spent on fields and in gymnasiums watching our boys grow up! Mike was all about the kids, and would do anything for them... Hauling equipment to practices in the middle of summer, smoking ribs to raise money, you name it! And of course, many hours spent 'catching fish' right there in the Dorian garage! We always had a good time. Summertime and "Nationals Baseball" will always hold a special place with the Bohlken Family. Please know that we are all thinking of you, and are here for you. Love you all- -Matt
