Mike was born August 20, 1963, in Kansas City, KS to Robert and Carol (Ryan) Dorian. He attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and was a 1981 graduate of Bishop Ward High School, participating in football, wrestling, and baseball. While working at DST, Mike met co-worker, Rebecca A Poteet and toId his friends, "I'm going to marry that girl." And in true fashion, in October 1991, they got married at Blessed Sacrament and they had two sons, Ryan Michael Dorian (26) and Shane Patrick Dorian (20).
From the beginning, Mike and Becky shared "real" goals - a real house, a real dog, a real Christmas tree, and real kids. Mike enjoyed helping his brother coach his nephews' baseball team. The love of the game brought him to later coach Ryan's Nationals baseball teams for many seasons. Mike also volunteered his time to the boys’ Northland Longhorns and Necco Raiders football clubs, maintaining and storing the players' safety equipment. He was an award winning BBQ Smoker, competing under team name Smokin' Dads, with members consisting of high school friends and later with Becky's dad. It is through all of these activities that Mike and Becky have met so many people that remain friends to this day. Mike also enjoyed tinkering - working on the yard, messing around in the garage, or doing small engine repairs. When Mike was not busy, he always enjoyed listening to country music, watching the Royals, Chiefs, KU basketball, and old western movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws John and Eva Lea, siblings Patti and Tim, nieces Molly and Erin, and nephew Bobby, Mike is survived by his wife Becky, sons Ryan & Shane, sister Paula and many extended family and friends. The family asks that during the next several days, please take a moment to embrace the ones you love just a little longer and remind them how much you love them. Mike will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the sound of his laughter will remain in our hearts. Please tip your hat to Coach Dorian and raise a beer in his remembrance.
