Dec 18, 1941---Jun 25, 2024

Surrounded by her family, Mary Elaine Weiler Bragdon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25th.

Mary was born to Geraldine (Bechtold) Bragdon and Ellis Bragdon in Robinson, Kansas on December 18, 1941.  Mary's childhood experiences molded her into a determined, self-less, generous, faithful mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. Mary and her two siblings lost their mother at an early age.  Ellis and Marcella “Bunny” (Sixta) Bragdon raised Mary and her 11 siblings in Kansas City, Kansas.

Mary would attend Blessed Sacrament Elementary school and graduate from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas before eventually graduating with a nursing degree from St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mary met the love of her life, Joseph W. Weiler and they would be married for 55 years, before Joe’s passing in 2016.    Together they raised their family of seven children in Kansas City, Kansas, being devout members of St. Patrick's parish and school. Mary and Joe founded Weiler Printing in Shawnee, Kansas, where Mary would work when she wasn’t steadily caring for her family and home. Mary also worked in real estate and for Wyandotte County Child Care Licensing.

Mary’s life revolved around her family, church, and their family business. When Mary wasn’t spending time with one of her thirteen grandchildren or ten great-grandchildren, she enjoyed gardening and volunteering her time to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Circle and St. Mary’s Food Kitchen.

Mary’s beautiful smile and considerate, generous spirit will be greatly missed.  We are honored to love her and know her love.

Mary leaves behind her children and spouses; Elizabeth Hinkle (Christopher), Susan Martin (Jeff), Elaine Zych (Nick), Joseph Weiler Jr., Matthew Weiler (Jessica), Michael Weiler (Lindsey), and Nicholas Weiler.  Grandchildren; Alexander Hinkle (Kristyn), Elizabeth Hinkle (Kyle Callegari), Kirstin Diehl (Taylor), Zachary Martin (Christy), Andrea Peel (Josh), Aaron Martin, Nicholas Zych, Noah Zych, Jessica Sharman (Michael), Kyle Weiler, Ethan Weiler, Daisy Weiler and Ava Weiler. Great Grandchildren: Henry Hinkle, Evie Martin, Brooks Martin, Wren Martin, Owen Martin, Maelee Peel, Bode Peel, Zoe Sharman, Jackson Sharman, and Theodore Sharman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on October 30, 2016.

She also leaves behind her siblings and their spouses; Jerry Bragdon, Carol Lastelic, Michael Bragdon, Virginia Heckman, Kermit Bragdon, Clella Casey, Theresa Keltner, Lyndon Bragdon, Sean Bragdon, and Raymond Bragdon.  Mary was also preceded by her mother Geraldine (Bechtold) Bragdon, father Ellis Bragdon, stepmother Marcella Bragdon, brother Wayne Bragdon, nephews, and niece.

The visitation will be on Tuesday, July 2nd, from 9-11a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St, Kansas City, Kansas.  The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 a.m., then an Entombment in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, Kansas City, Kansas. Lastly, following all services, family and friends are welcomed to join back at St. Patrick’s for a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NAMI Johnson County or Saint Mary's Food Kitchen, KCK.

Mary was such a sweet, kind and generous person. I never knew her to say an unkind word about anyone (even the dog in back of her house that is always barking) she just said, "I'm kinda getting used to it now"! Always willing to help, or to talk when you needed someone to talk with. She will be so missed.

I didn't know Mrs. Weiler personally. She was my co-worker, Susan Martin's mom. Mrs. Weiler raised a wonderful, bright and caring daughter who I am sure is a reflection of both her mom and dad. Sincere condolences to Sue and her entire family.

For the work that she has done over the years, still lives on in childcare licensing. It’s not how much money you leave, it’s not It’s not the fancy car it’s making a difference in a life of a child. Thank you, Mary . You are always a lady of integrity and values : Another angel has got her wings ! You made a difference!

My deepest sympathy to your family. When I was young, we lived on Parallel, across from their house. I was in Kermit's class in kindergarten and my sister, MaryAnne was in Michael or Wayne's but played often with Virginia. Mary also helped me to purchase my first home. She was a wonderful, kind lady. May memories of her bring comfort.. May she rest in peace. Prayers for the family.

It is truly heartbreaking for Mary’s passing, as we are left with memories of a beautiful person. She & Joe raised incredibly beautiful children, using strengths to face life’s challenges, her rich, warm heart, & true faith inspire me & those around her to stay strong, she is missed in her presence, but our love & memories of Mary, & Joe as well, will last forever.
