Jun 10, 1994---May 25, 2024

Louis Gabriel Rebeck tragically died on May 25, 2024 in a motorcycle accident.

Louie was born June 10, 1994 in Kansas City, Kansas to Elizabeth and George Rebeck. A fun and quirky youngest brother, he liked to entertain his family by bursting out in song, and for a time requested being addressed as “Tiger”.

His quick intellect and curiosity allowed him to excel in school. After attending Christ the King grade school, Louie graduated valedictorian at Bishop Ward High School in 2012, followed by a degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University in 2016. Always inquisitive, he took a special interest in electronics and nurtured an ability to understand and create complex objects that interact with the world in interesting ways. He took these skills to Honeywell National Security Campus, where he worked since June of 2016. There was nothing Louie couldn't fix, or believed he couldn't fix, when it came to technology or mechanical things.

A well-rounded individual, Louie cultivated many interests: he was a lifelong reader; music lover; movie buff; and connoisseur of local BBQ, whiskey, sour beer, craft soda, and dill pickles. His love of soccer started as an infant cheering at Bishop Ward games, and he continued to play and spectate throughout his life. Soccer gave him community and friends–both on recreational teams and in the stands of the Sporting KC Battery and the Cauldron –including his beloved Arlet VanHoutan. His passion for motorcycles took him to Blip Coffee with its Moto Mint Mocha and Sunday morning gatherings, and his sense of adventure motivated him to travel and experience the outdoors with friends.

In his communities, Louie forged meaningful relationships as he treated everyone like an old friend, even if he just met you. He was known to be good company and someone you could count on. His wealth of knowledge and wry sense of humor endeared him to others. If he was being sarcastic with you, he liked you. If he was explaining something to you or setting the record straight, he liked you. Louie had a deep generosity that he freely extended to those around him, whether it was assistance with a project, climbing the balcony for someone who was locked out, or helping a friend make ends meet.

Louie is missed dearly by his closest companion, Arlet; parents; brothers Nicholas (Sarah) and Nathaniel (Catherine); and sister Cecilia (Gideon). His niece Lena and nephews Max and Ari will miss their fun uncle who supervised candy melting experiments, danced ballet by request only, and gave the best engineering gifts.

The Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. with the visitation until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 54th St., Kansas City, KS. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at Christ the King. A reception and luncheon will follow.  Graveside Services will be at Holy Angels Cemetery in Basehor, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Bishop Ward High School soccer program for high school students in the Dotte at 708 N. 18th St., Kansas City,KS 66102 913-371-1201 or the National Motorcycle Safety Fund (nmsfund.org)

I'll never forget how down-to-earth, humble, and helpful Louie was. We liked to talk about cars and motorcycles. I remember he had a goal of eating at every single BBQ restaurant in KC. I was always impressed by his natural curiosity and his insatiable love for tinkering. His memory will live on forever.

Dear Elizabeth, George and family. As sad as I am, the entertaining remembrance of Louie’s short but well-lived life made me smile. It truly captured the many facets of Louie’s character. It brought so many memories, yes, of him wanting to be called “Tiger” and a time when he was only 4 or 5 years old when your family visited and stayed with us for a few days. Upon discovering and commandeering Chuck and Lucas’s transistor radio, the sounds of salsa music filled the air, as it was Louie’s favorite. Words are entirely inadequate to describe the stellar person that was Louie, and even more inadequate to express our sorrow and grief. Perhaps God felt Louie lived a hundred years in just shy of 30 and wanted to have his bright light closer. I’m sad for you, his family, for myself and my family, for all Louie’s friends and relatives and also for the world. May his bright light shine down on us and show us the way. My love and prayers are with you. Love, Teresa

I got to work with Louis for 4 years at Honeywell. I was there when he first hired into Telemetry. I got to know him while escorting him waiting on his clearance and we immediately connected on our shared history of being from the Dotte. Even thou I was over 20 years his senior, I was immediately impressed with his maturity and sense of humor. I got to watch him mature as an engineer and a young man. You should be so proud of the man he was. Even though he was taken from us way too soon, he definitely made an impression in the short time I got to know him. My deep condolences on your loss

Rebeck Family - My sincere condolences to you all during this difficult time. I have nothing but great memories with Louie going to CTK. He was the kid in school who I looked at and thought, “I want to be smart like him”. What an honor it was to have known him and spend time with you all outside of school. Cherish the memories and know he will always be by your sides.

I have had the great honor to work with Louie for the past 8 years. When he first came to Telemetry he became the lead on one of my programs. It didn’t take me long to figure out that he was going to be great at what he does. He was polite, friendly and professional in every way. I knew I could count on him for any questions I had. I like to listen to smart people talk… so when Louie spoke, I listened. I am so thankful for the 8 short years that I got to know Louie… both at work and outside of work. I will cherish all the conversations and time that we shared. My condolences to Arlet and his family.

I knew Louis as my best and first friend in Kansas City. We quickly became close friends going on motorcycle rides together and visiting all his favorite breweries and spots in KC. In the last few years we started skiing and snowboarding together and only became stronger friends. He loved going to Colorado for my 30th birthday trip and I wished to do the same with him for his 30th this year. He will be missed, but not lost from my memories.
