Jerry was born in Marshall, Missouri on March 20, 1936, to Frank Johnson and Lillian (Linnberry)Johnson. He lived in Slater, Missouri for 9 years. In 1947, he and his parents moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Troost Elementary School and Southeast High School. He transferred to Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, South Carolina, where he graduated High School and then went on to attend college at Bob Jones University. He had the privilege of singing in the Bob Jones radio quartet. He gave his life to Christ during those years.

Upon returning to the Kansas City area, he worked as a service manager for Overhead Door Company. During this time, he attended Southwest Bible Church, where he met the love of his life, Barbara L Scholtens. They were married, June 27, 1959. After being drafted into the army, Jerry and Barbara were stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. While they were living in Germany, they were blessed with their oldest daughter!

In 1961 they returned to the Kansas City area, where Jerry began his sales career, and their family grew. Jerry and Barb were blessed with the birth of 2 more beautiful girls. He continued his sales career until 2015, when he retired at the age of 80.

Jerry loved Gospel Music. He was an active member of Bible Study Fellowship and enjoyed flying hobby planes. Jerry and Barb also enjoyed traveling. They were blessed to be able visit many amazing places! They spent many winters enjoying the warm weather of Florida with dear family and friends. Jerry loved volunteering both at his church and a local food bank. Jerry and Barbara opened their home to so many over the years. Hospitality was their heart.

One of his greatest joys was his family. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was blessed to live close by most of his grandchildren and loved watching them enjoy various sports and activities! He invested his life in his family and in his Savior. His greatest desire was that his children and grandchildren would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and faithfully prayed to that end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian (Linnberry) Johnson, his daughter’s Lisa Joy and Jill Ann, and grandson, Nathan Isaiah Gress.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Barbara, his daughters, Cathy Johnson Claudell (Terry), Lori Johnson Gress (Bruce), and Julie Johnson Zepp (John). 11 grandchildren, Ashley Claudell (Danny), Eric Claudell, Alex Claudell (Hannah), Emily Claudell, Austin (Katie) Gress, Justin (Lauran) Gress, Logan (Madysson) Gress, Ryan Gress, Lara Talbert, Tyler (Julie) Zepp, and Kyle (Jessica) Zepp, along with 15 great grandchildren.
