Don Robert Zimmerman, 86, formerly of Tulsa, OK, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Meadowbrook Senior Living.

The Funeral Liturgy was held at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kansas.

Burial will be at 13:00 on April 26 in Memorial Park Cemetery,  5111 S Memorial Dr, Tulsa, OK 74145. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial contributions to Queen of the Holy Rosary.

Don was born July 18, 1937 in Oklahoma City. He was the son of Barnabus and June (née Thompson) Zimmerman. He married his high school sweetheart, Mahala Sue Potter, in 1956. He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-1959, primarily as a drill sergeant at 29 Palms, California. 

Upon his separation from the military Don returned to Tulsa where he began a career in education, first in elementary and later at the University of Tulsa. He was a professor of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and the coach of the Golden Hurricane men’s tennis and golf teams. 

After years of discernment Don was received into the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil 2023.

He is survived by his daughter Dawn Michelle Diller, her spouse Jon, their son Griffin James, and Don’s sister Gayle Zimmerman.
