Michael Francis Sikora, (62), passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 18, 2024 in Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on March 1, 2024 at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia St., Lenexa, KS 66215. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2, at St. Mary St. Anthony Catholic Church, 615 North 7th Street, Kansas City, KS 66101.
Mike was born May 7, 1961, in New York, NY to Frank and Ann (O'Sullivan) Sikora.
He graduated in 1979 from Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in Queens. He continued his studies at St. John’s University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1983. After graduating from college, he started his career at Johnson and Higgins/Marsh. In 1987, he was promoted to Vice President and opened a new branch in London where he expanded the company’s scope of operations and business volume. In 1991, he was transferred to Chicago, Illinois and promoted to manager of the Global Property Marine Risk Management Department. In 1994, he took on the new role of Executive Vice President in Omaha, Nebraska where he launched a new office. In 2000, he was promoted once again to Managing Director of the Kansas City office. While with the company, he originated and developed an international department for New Jersey operations, which won Office of the Year. Throughout his exemplary career, Mike was the underwriter for Lloyds of London, ConAgra Foods, and many other Fortune 500 companies. He was an accomplished Operations Leader with over 30 years of experience in the property and causality insurance industry. He held positions as owner, Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President, and Managing Director.
In June of 1988 Mike married his Jersey girl, Madeline, at Sacred Heart Church in Dover, New Jersey. In 1991, they started their family with the birth of their first daughter, Kimberly. They completed their family of four in 1996 when they welcomed Sarah to the world. He was a member for the NRA, an avid fisherman and a Grateful Dead enthusiast. He loved his New York Giants and New York Mets. If he wasn’t out fishing with his close friend Sam, you would find him enjoying a nice bottle of wine, whiskey or an ice-cold Miller Lite. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. Some of his favorite trips included Italy, London, Ireland, Cabo San Lucas, and many other waterfront destinations.
He's preceded in death by his mother, Ann (O’Sullivan) Sikora, father and mother in- law Miguel and Elsa Velez.
Mike is survived by his wife of 36 years, Madeline, children, Kimberly, Sarah Blake (Braden), (his grandpups, Bentley and Piper), his father Frank, his brother Steven (Lisa), his sister Elizabeth, brother-in-law Mike (Myriam) Velez, his niece, Karen (Collin) Colburn, his nephew, Paul, nieces Caitlin and Jaclyn McDonagh, his nephew Steven (Idania) Velez and great nephews Landon and Nathaniel Colburn.
