Rita Simpson, 96, died peacefully January 30, 2024, She was born May 21st, 1927, in Kansas City, KS. She was the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Klein) Sixta, the 6th of 18 children. She was a lifetime resident with her husband of 71 years, Dick (d. 2017). Rita had a strong Catholic upbringing and prayed the rosary daily. She enjoyed spending time with family, in her garden, and at their cabin in Small Fry’s Haven at the Lake of the Ozarks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, son Patrick, son in law Raymond, and siblings, Buzz, Bob, Joe, Bill, Gene, Jack, Betty, Mary Lou, Arlene, Judy, Dani and Bunny.
Surviving are children and their spouses Cynthia Masters, Charles “Rick” (Kathy) Simpson, Mary Ann (Stephen) Schmitz, Paul (Bethany) Simpson, Vincent (Sherry) Simpson, Elaine (Christopher) Hoffman, Glen (Sandi) Simpson, Lisa (Richard) Liston, 25 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and sisters Sylvia, Madonna, Pat, Peggy and Vickie. Also, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rita’s family would like to thank so many for their love, and support with a special note to Charlotte, Jeannie, Cecilia, and Nancy.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 5th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W 75th St., Shawnee, KS. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial to be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances in Rita’s memory to the Archdiocese’s Call To Share or Kansas City Hospice.
