Jan 15, 1968---Dec 16, 2023

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Michael John Holdren, a remarkable man whose bold spirit and unwavering zest for life touched the lives of all who knew him. Born on January 15, 1968, Michael left this world on December 16, 2023.

Mike was the loving husband of Melinda, devoted father to Logan, and a cherished brother to Carmen Galvan, bringing immeasurable love and laughter to their lives. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Philip Holdren and Georgia Kay Butcher.

Mike served as an officer with the Kansas City Police Department, exemplifying courage and commitment. His sense of duty extended to the Coast Guard Reserves, where he served with dedication. Mike was proficient in a multitude of skills and interests, truly a jack of all trades. There wasn’t a project he wouldn’t tackle, always dreaming up inventive ways to solve a problem.

Mike held a deep love for animals and a profound connection to the outdoors. An avid skier, he was always eager to share adventures with family and friends.

Mike’s storytelling was legendary, a skill that brought laughter to countless friends and family members. Known for speaking his mind, you always knew where he stood on a topic. Mike didn’t know a stranger, he welcomed many into his circle and found ways to connect them to others in his network.

A visitation service to honor Michael's life will be held on Thursday, December 21st from 4-6 PM, at Porter Funeral Home 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Melissa’s Second Chances Animal Rescue as Michael loved his fur babies and helping animals in need.

As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember the laughter he shared, the stories he wove, and the love he bestowed upon family and friends. Michael's legacy lives on not just in the tales of his adventures but in the indelible mark he left on our hearts.

To the family of Mike Holdren: I graduated high school in 1987 and he was in my class. I saw him at a class reunion, which I know he’s attended a lot of them. He is a Gretna dragon to the core. My thoughts and prayers are to his wife and his son, friends and family. There are no words in the situation and we never know when the end will be live your life to the fullest like Mike did.

Dear Melinda: Mary Ann and I grieve with your family for the loss of Mike. He was so loved and valued by the Butcher family and his many kind acts and loving relationship with his grandmother, Kay Butcher, will never be forgotten. As Mike's uncle, I always enjoyed his enthusiasm for life, his sense of humor and his determination to lead a good life. I enjoyed the pride he demonstrated in his family and friends in his frequent Facebook posts. To me, Mike was an all-around winner that I was pleased to know. We send you our sincere sympathy and prayers.

I am so sorry for your lose. I am floored by this news. While I only spent a short time in Mike's life, his friendship holds a special place in my heart. In those few short years at LXA we shared so many laughs and life lessons. The ease with which we became fast friends was a testimate to the open, loving person Mike was. I had only recently been reconnected to Mike through facebook. I don't know how many time I thought I should drop him a message and never did. I regret that now. I do appreciate from his posts that he had not changed. He will be missed.

Micheal always brought a smile to my face. He always had a joke or a story to tell. When he was born I helped my sister Georgia pick his name, and whenever she was unable to care for him he was with me. When he was little I was always amazed by his cleverness, how he could take building blocks and make whole cities, the stories he would tell, and his beautiful art. I feel so blessed for having a part in rasing him, for the time my family and I got to spend with him, and for the joy he brought us. I cannot express how sad I am for his untimely loss and how much I will miss him. I am so sorry I am unable to attend the funeral, and my heart goes out to Melinda and Logan.
