Beverly Gail Updike, 76, of Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Calhoun, Missouri passed peacefully to be with her Creator on November 11, 2023 surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 3rd, 2023 at the George Meyn Hall, Wyandotte County Park, 126th & State Ave., KCK @ 1pm.

Bev was born on January 25, 1947 in Windsor, Missouri to Clifton Eugene and Harriett Raylene Purnell. Bev was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her primary occupation was raising her children and being a homemaker. She also ran the office for the family construction company for many years. Bev’s ability to see the good in people and her compassionate heart and service work in Al-Anon/Alateen for over 43 years, helped countless men, women and their families recover from the devasting and deadly disease of alcoholism. She couldn’t not love you and “loved people like Jesus”.
Bev was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Bob Purnell, her granddaughters Mackenzie Hernandez and Chelsey Updike and daughter Amy Hiatt. Bev is survived by her husband of 58 years Ted Updike of the home, six children and their spouses Shawn and Nici (Hinkle) Updike, Chad Updike, Jamie Updike, Denise (Duncanson) and Tui Atagi, Sarah (Updike) and Chris Gorman. Sixteen Grandchildren, Nine Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
