Phyllis Ann Hamm, 89, of Leander, Texas, passed away on November 5, 2023. She was born on August 8, 1934, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the fourth of five children of Lester and Alice (Selfridge) Grady. Phyllis led a fulfilling life, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
Phyllis attended Hutchinson High School and later pursued a career as a claims adjuster at American Trust Administrators, where she worked for 25 years before retiring in 2007. She was known for her dedication and professionalism in her field.
Outside of her career, Phyllis had a wide array of interests and hobbies. She had a passion for crafts, needlepoint, sewing, and reading. She found solace in listening to the timeless melodies of Frank Sinatra, whose music brought her joy and relaxation.
Family was at the center of Phyllis's life. She married the love of her life, Robert (Bud) Hamm, on June 3, 1960. Together, they built a beautiful life, moving to various cities and welcoming their son Joel and daughter Amy into their family. Phyllis took great pride in being a devoted mother and wife, supporting her husband's career and actively participating in her children's lives.
Phyllis's role as a grandmother brought her immense joy. When she became a grandmother in 1995, her granddaughter Katelyn became the apple of her eye. Phyllis embraced her role as "Gammy" wholeheartedly, showering Katelyn with love and creating cherished memories. She was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Madeline, who brought her much happiness.
Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Joel Hamm and Amy Turner; her cherished granddaughter, Katelyn Turner, and grandson-in-law Parker Seaman; and her great-granddaughter, Madeline Seaman. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Ball, as well as sister-in-law Carolyn Oertle, sister-in-law Frances Hamm, and other extended family members. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert (Bud) Hamm, her parents Lester and Alice Grady, her brother Robert Grady, her brother Kenneth Grady, and her sister Alice (Grady) Holly.
A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Four Colonies Clubhouse #3, located at 8100 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS 66215. This will be an opportunity for family and friends to come together and remember Phyllis, sharing stories and honoring her life.
