James (Jim) Charles Lane, 82, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, with his wife, Sheila Lane, by his side.
Jim was born on July 2, 1941, in East Chicago, Indiana. As a life-long salesman, Jim’s success led to him owning his own Kansas City-based medical supply company, LSI International. He and his wife, Sheila, worked side-by-side running the company, until they sold it in 2005 and retired to Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer (Lane) Sieben. Jim is survived by his wife, Sheila Lane, his children and their families, Julie and Tom Miller, their children Kate (husband Cole Finley), Brianna and Thomas; Janice and Andrew Hartsock, their children Carlyn and Brooks; Stacey Shively and Roderick Keller (fiancé); Jackie Kanis and Steve Renko III, their children Olivia Kanis, Steve IV and MaKinsey Renko; granddaughter Emily Sieben and son-in-law, Darren Sieben; his sister, Mona Stokes as well as honorary daughter Christina Lively and her children Tyler and Elizabeth.
Jim served honorably in the US Army. His time in the Army helped Jim discover his lifelong aviation passion. Jim was awarded the Military Parachutist Badge upon completing the US Armed Forces Airborne training course. He went on to earn the USPA Wings Award Pin which recognizes any USPA member with freefall skydives of 1,000. Jim hung up his parachute after 1,001 skydives, opening the door for a new passion, piloting and ultimately, formation flying. He was a private pilot for over 30 years. Jim made over 30 Angel Flights, serving people in need of transportation for healthcare or humanitarian purposes. Jim began formation flying after training with the Bonanzas to Oshkosh organization. He took those skills and became a founding member of the San Juan Squadron of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. The Squadron entertains at various community events in Pagosa Springs, including a flyover during the annual Fourth of July Parade.
Jim was a devoted husband of forty-nine years to Sheila and a wonderful father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his daughters and their families. Jim’s family and friends were everything to him and he was happiest when surrounded by them.
Jim’s family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support during this time of sorrow. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.
A Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2023 with Memorial Services following at 5:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, Kansas. Private family inurnment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
