Lois Ebel Hochstatter, 93, Leavenworth, KS, formerly of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Homestead Assisted Living Facility.  The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, 30 August, at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W 119th St, Leawood, KS.  Private family interment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.  The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. followed by Visitation until 10:30 a.m. The family requests no flowers and suggest memorial contributions be sent to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Lois’s favorite charity.

Lois Lorraine Lasewicz was born on 27 May 1930, in Bristol, CT, daughter of Stephen and Helen (Baldyger) Lasewicz. Raised in Connecticut, Lois attended UCONN.  There she studied child psychology, and she met William “Bill” E. Ebel. Immediately upon graduation, Lois and Bill married and began their life together and raised four children as an Army family.  When Bill unexpectedly died on 24 Sep 1979, Lois found a most patient, loving, and loyal friend, Henry J. Hochstatter.  Nineteen years later, Lois and Henry married and journeyed 25 more years of life together until her passing.  Lois loved people.  She was also an avid reader, enjoyed playing rummy, bridge, and bunko. She would watch old movies and go to the theater.   She devotedly attended church services, followed by breakfasts at First Watch.  Most importantly, she celebrated all her children and their children.  Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister, Holly Grano.  Lois is survived by her brother Steven Lasewicz, her children Debra Gibson, Lynn Watson, Bill Ebel Jr. and Todd Ebel, and many nieces and nephews. Lois was especially fond of all her 47 combined grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her great-great grand-daughter – better known to Lois as “her babies.” Lois rightfully would often exclaim “I am blessed!”  Indeed, Lois was blessed just as we are blessed to have known and loved “Lois, Mom, Lassie, LoLo, Auntie Lo,” and most affectionally, “OMA.”

Lois’s family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support during this time of sorrow.

Ebel family and Henry, Praying for you all at this time of loss. Although she was special to many, Aunt Lois was someone who always lit up my dads life and I will forever be thankful for that. Her sense of humor, kindness, and beautiful smile will be my strongest memories of her. I only wish that we could have all lived closer so that I could have gotten to know her better. Rest in peace Aunt Lois - glad you and Holly will be together again, Give her a squeeze for me and let her know I miss her. Love, Jamie

Lois was a dear friend. I met her while working at Ft. Leavenworth in the mid-80s and we kept in contact ever since. I am so fortunate to have many fond memories of her, especially the times when we got together with Joanne Jones. While visiting her and Henry this past year, she always said: “We had so much fun, didn’t we?” And we did for sure. Lois was a positive and beautiful lady with the cutest dimples—even into her old age. She had the sweetest personality and seemed to love everybody, especially her family. Lois was a special friend. I was blessed to know her.

My family moved to Leavenworth and into a house across the street from the Ebel family in the summer of 1973. First day there, I saw 2 boys about my age playing basketball their driveway. Went over, played a few games, and then Bill and Todd took me inside for refreshments. Lois happened to be home at the time and after a 30 second “interview,” which I must have passed, she then welcomed me with open arms as if I was a long, lost cousin. Her caring and concern for me and my family continued through high school, West Point, and many Army assignments. She was a kind, thoughtful, and entertaining woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who is loved by many.

So sorry to hear of Lois’ passing. She was such a sweet person and I always loved playing bridge with her; especially if she were my partner. She was such a good player and always had a smile on her face. RIP Lois.

Dear Ebel family and Henry So deeply sorry for your loss. I have a picture of my mom and Lois sitting on my dresser that I say good night to every night. Your parents were so very loved by myself and my family. So much so that I was named after Lois. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Lois Lorraine Lindorff
