Gary R. Hanson, passed suddenly into the loving hands of his Savior Jesus Christ around 7pm on May 14th, 2023. Although he is present with The Lord, he will be missed by his wife, family and friends left behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Shirley Hanson, his sister Sue Ann and his wife Sue Steiner Hanson.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Susan Barker, his children John (Deanna) and Carol;his grandchildren: Rylee, Ashlyn, Joshua, Caleb, Jonathan, Molly, Macy, and Carter and his sisters Sheryl (Jim) and Linda; his niece Emily and nephews Nick (Molly) and Steven and his many close friends.
Gary was born in Omaha, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska where he became a lifelong Husker fan. He served in the National Guard before pursuing a successful career in Information Technology. He was married to Sue for 41 years after meeting her on the dance floor, and together they raised their family in Omaha and Colorado. The final two years of Sue’s life was a time of deep strengthening in his faith and their marriage as he tenderly cared for her as she fought cancer.
He had a deeply rooted faith and was a Christian for most of his life and didn’t care about material things, always trusting in The Lord to provide. He loved adventure and the outdoors. He was unafraid to take risks because he knew that his life was in God’s hands.
He was a deep thinker, filled with curiosity and a love for adventure. He was never afraid to ask questions and challenge conventional thinking. His curiosity resulted in a love of Mathematics even to the point of doing math problems as a form of entertainment! In retirement he taught Mathematics at Faith Christian Academy and in the final years of his life he was a Math tutor for local high school students.
While he had a long and successful career in Information Technology he had always had a dream to be an entrepreneur. After retiring from Aquila in 2002, he approached his family about starting a franchise of The Maids. He loved his employees and enjoyed learning Spanish as he worked alongside them. He enjoyed being a business owner and loved the opportunity to travel and visit other franchise owners.
Later in life, he fell in love with Susan and they were married in September 2018. They had a wonderful marriage and enjoyed traveling and serving The Lord faithfully in their local churches in Basehor and Gold Canyon, AZ. He also loved serving small businesses in Honduras alongside Susan through Partners Worldwide, which is a Christian organization founded to alleviate poverty worldwide through entrepreneurship.
