Shirley was born on April 24, 1935, in Covington, Kentucky to Oscar and Lulu Roberts. She was one of six children who grew up with good story telling amongst the siblings and fun-loving practical jokes played on all. Mom graduated from high school and soon after married James (Jim) J. Lohmoeller on January 5, 1957. Overland Park, Kansas has been their home for the past 52 years.
From that marriage of 65 years came four daughters; Lesa Koster and Kim Koster, Angela and Al Muglach, Teresa and Jay Simpson, SusAnne and Kurt Van Speybroeck, 7 grandchildren; Ashley Glassman, Kristina Dodd, Lynsey Janysek, Albert Muglach, Davis Muglach, Erick Koster and Tex VanSpeybroeck. As well as 6.5 great-grandchildren; Tanner, Tucker and Emmalyn Janysek, Lucy and Herbie Dodd and to be named baby and Carter Glassman.
Mom had a quick wit and a genuine love for her children and grandchildren. This was often demonstrated when she and Dad would come to our homes and take over the parenting while we enjoyed date nights or weekend getaways with our spouses. Mom was a fabulous cook and she shared that with family and friends. Many evenings were spent on the patio with great food, great drink and lots of laughter. Mom was always the first phone call to get a family favorite recipe or instructions on how to put together a floral piece or decorate our homes.
Mom had many words of wisdom and advice that she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren. But her most important influence was her love for Jesus. Mom was a born-again Christ follower who’s love for the Gospel influenced all of us. She shared God’s word, demonstrated His love, and allowed us to find our way to Jesus on our own. She was a Prayer Warrior. We all believed she had a direct line to God’s ear and didn’t hesitate to ask her to pray for our needs. We know that she is now joyously worshipping our Lord and Savior in heaven.
