Clive Gregory Madrigal, at the age of 8 months, passed away peacefully in the arms of his parents at Children’s Mercy Hospital on April 20, 2023.
Clive was born August 10, 2022 to Calvin Madrigal and Kellie Wright. He was a fighter from the start and decided he would arrive a day before his induction date in order to have a birthday on the 10th of the month, just like his older brother and sister. Clive and his siblings continued to celebrate the 10th day of every month by having cupcake parties at the hospital. He spent cozy days swaddled in his boppy with his favorite giraffe wub-a-nub and countless episodes of his favorite show, Paw Patrol. His siblings lovingly referred to him as “Clivey” and would bring pictures they drew for his room and Paw Patrol pups and Jayhawk lovies to show him how much they loved him. He also enjoyed many afternoons watching soap operas with Grammy. During his couple of months at home, Clive enjoyed his swing, walks around the neighborhood with Mom, and countless hours working on tummy time with his siblings. Clive enjoyed lots of tickles, cuddles, and naps with Dad. He also had a good ear for music and would listen to classic rock and oldies with Dad. He had a contagious smile that would brighten your day.
Clive was a strong, brave boy who fought every day of his short life and defied the odds up until the very end. His incredible life was cut short due to a genetic mutation resulting in Alagille Syndrome. He had an excellent sense of humor and took his last breath during a moment when his nurse was telling a particular funny story about Clive’s “spicey” personality. He brought so much joy to life even in times of uncertainty. He was loved by all who met him and will forever be in our hearts.
Clive is survived by his parents, his brother Caiden and sister Luisa, grandparents Wiley and Cindy Wright, grandmother Juanita Madrigal, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Clive’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, care assistants, therapists, volunteers, and the extraordinary staff on 5 Sutherland at Children’s Mercy for their kindness and care and for making Clive feel important and loved each day he was in their care. There will never enough words to thank you for the unconditional love and care you showed Clive.
A visitation celebrating Clive’s life will be held Thursday, April 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter’s funeral home in Lenexa. A private service and burial will be on Friday, April 28. Donations in Clive’s memory may be made to Children’s Mercy Kansas City.
