Howard E. “Gene” Starr, Jr., 76, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Thursday, April 13th, 2023.  Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., May 13th, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel, 14251 Nall Ave., Leawood, KS 66223.  Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice, 7223 W 95th St., Suite #230, Overland Park, KS. 66212  or Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer, 15954 S Mur-Len Rd., Olathe, KS 66062.

Gene was born September 1st, 1946, in Coffeyville, KS to Howard E Starr, Sr. and Mary Fidelis (McGrath) Starr. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Penner.  They were married for 56 years.  Gene served in the US Air Force. He was a Trooper for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 32 years, followed by a robust career in fashion photography.  

Gene loved all things in nature!  His passions, were hiking and biking in CO, Fly Fishing, archery, hunting, canoeing, and camping.

Gene was preceded in in death by his parents and beautiful daughter Jennifer Ann Starr Charlton. He is survived by his wife Linda , son-in-law Phillip Charlton, grandson Quinlan McGrath Charlton, nephew Mark Michael Starr (Kristen) great nieces Iris and Nora, and brother Mike (Cheryl).

Gene was always someone who you could talked to about anything. We worked together out of Troop A in Olathe. Always respected Gene as a close friend and fellow troop.
