In the early 80’s, I transferred into William Allen White as a 3 grader. It was a difficult year wherein I struggled socially and had uneven academic performance. There was talk of having me repeat the 3rd grade. Mrs. Mann spoke with my mother and told her that I was intelligent and capable of improving if given the right structure. I was placed in her 3rd/4th grade/4 split classroom were she customized materials that emphasized areas where I excelled and provided help where I needed support. In that year, I became an engaged learner and a serious reader. It’s where I remember my love of books began. Mrs. Mann changed the trajectory of my life and for that I am eternally grateful. Thank you “Ms. Mann” for the outsized impact you had on the lives of countless children. Rest well. ????

Dear Mann Children and grandchildren, I was sorry to read in a recent Kansas City Star about the passing of your mom and grandmother. I was raised on 34th Street between Parallel and Leavenworth Road. I am a 1965 graduate from Parker School and I remember your family well. I'm sure that your mom and my mom were both active in the PTA at Parker. Leah, I will always remember that I was at your house on a Saturday afternoon making papier mache' grape clusters for Homecoming when I got word from my mother that my grandma in southern Iowa had passed away. I was always thankful for all of your kindnesses as I was getting ready to go home and get ready to go to Iowa with my mom. May God wrap his loving arms around all of you in the days, weeks and months to come. Sincerely, Judy Larson Southrad Psalms 23:4

Woodyne was on my mind today, so I looked her up and learned she had passed. Your mom was the angel from church that always kept an eye on my parents and sister, Cindy. It took me awhile to make the Mann connection. Cary was good friends Dennis back in the day. A terrific family all the way around. We are sorry for your loss, but happy your mom is dancing in heaven.
