T. Dale Vernon, 92, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. The visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. with a service Celebrating Dale's Life at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 20 at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Cancer Action, the American Red Cross of Wyandotte County or the charity of the donor's choice.
Dale was born July 13, 1930, in Eldon, MO and had lived most of his life in Kansas City, KS. He had served his country in the United States Naval Reserves during the Korean Conflict. Dale started his career managing Baker Shoe Stores before he switched to a new career as an investment broker with H. O. Peet in their office in the Brotherhood Bank Building. H.O. Peet then became Kidder-Peabody with Dale retiring in 1995. Dale was active in many organizations in K.C.K. He was a member of the Downtown Kansas City Kansas Kiwanis Club and served as the club President in 1979-1980, the Kansas Lieutenant Governor in 1988-1989 and the Kansas Distinguished Governor in 1989-1990. Dale also served on the boards of Cancer Action, Inc., and the American Red Cross of Wyandotte County. Dale was an active member of First Baptist Church at 2900 Minnesota Ave. in KCK and served in many leadership roles, including singing in the choir. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Nellie Mae (Hawken) Vernon and his brother Dennis Vernon. Dale is survived by his wife of 71 years, Pat, 3 daughters, Susan Meier and her husband Steve, Cindy Holmes and Kathy Bain, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
