Dec 23, 1975---Sep 05, 2022

Gregory John Allison, age 46, of Mission Woods, Kansas passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 5, 2022. Greg was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas on December 23, 1975 to Fred and Sharon (Allison) Smith and was raised in Shawnee,Kansas. After graduating from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1994, Greg attended University of Kansas earning his BA degree in 1999, and was an avid Jayhawk through and through.

In 2000 Greg began a successful career as a financial advisor for the company that went on to become Ameriprise Financial Services. In 2007, Greg earned his professional designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and in 2019 earned the Certified Long Term Care (CLTC) designation. He enjoyed strong relationships with his many clients and served them well as noted with various awards and recognitions.  Many clients have expressed a real fondness for Greg, saying they not only trusted him but considered him to be more their friend than merely their advisor.

Greg was not only a loyal and enthusiastic Jayhawk, Chiefs and Royals fan, but enjoyed sports of any kind and tried his hand at everything he possibly could. He played soccer and baseball during his youth, wrestled in high school, and later learned skiing, snowboarding, scuba, and honed a pretty impressive golf game. He would zip line, fish, hunt or whatever the moment called for with no fear. He loved to travel, camp, explore, hike, enjoy nature and live in the moment.

There was never a home project Greg wouldn’t tackle a music concert he didn’t want to see or an adventure he wouldn’t take. His quick wit, humor, and adventurous playful nature made him fun to be around and he made many strong friendships along the way. He was always referred to as “really good guy” and will be missed by all his many friends.

Most of all Greg was an incredible family man. He was a son, husband and father that loved deeply and emotionally when it came to his family including doting on his two dogs, Remington and Louie, as though they were his male children. He met his soulmate, Meagan, in 2011, whom he cherished and adored. They blended their families and married in 2016. He was always anxious to demonstrate his gourmet cooking skills and thrived on hosting holiday and birthday celebrations for his family. He was a loving son and source of pride to his parents.  He was true hero to his four girls, had immense pride in their individual talents, and found true joy in being their dad.

Greg leaves his parents, Fred Allison and Sharon Smith, his wife Meagan, daughters Campbell Allison and Vivian Allison, two step-daughters Lydia Dorton and Nora Dorton, half-siblings Bonnie Hock and Joe Allison, along with his legion of friends. Greg loved well and lived life well and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

A visitation will be held at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 beginning at 9:00 am. with a service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa Kansas.

Meagan and family, We are beyond saddened and heartbroken to hear of Greg’s passing. Our prayers are with you and your girls. Greg was so proud of his family and always spoke of all of you with such endearing love. We had the utmost confidence and trust in his skills as he guided us through retirement. We will miss him for so many reasons…..but most of all for the really good person that he was with the biggest heart. Our sincere sympathy to all the family.

I was shocked to read of Greg’s sudden death. While we did not know each other well, I respected His commitment to his various causes as when we worked on the Bonner Springs Car Depot project. Greg departed this world too soon. Blessings to his Family .

As the father of Nora Dorton-Hugunin, Greg's "stepdaughter", I'm saddened by the death of Greg. He earnestly loved his children and wife, and was taken from this earth too soon. Rest in peace Greg.

We were absolutely heartbroken to hear of Greg's passing. When reading his obituary and it talked about his clients feeling like they were his friend, we were nodding in agreement. We were one of Greg's earliest clients and over the past two decades he DID become our friend. Greg was always so nice and funny and flexible. He even agreed to play on my golf foursome as a fundraiser for a school for the deaf. We are aching for his entire family. EVERY time we met in person to discuss our finances, family would inevitable come up and Greg's face would light up as he talked about his love for his wife and children. You were one of the really good ones, Greg. You are gone way too soon. We will really miss you.

As an Ameriprise Advisor in Lawrence, I didn't know Greg very well, but saw him at the occasional Ameriprise conference in KC. My impression of him was he was very smart, a hard worker, and easy going. My deepest condolences for his family. God be with you.

We are so stunned and saddened to hear of Greg's passing. We've worked with him for the past 18 years and like it has been said, we came to think of him as a friend as well as our advisor. Greg was always so helpful, sincere, and especially patient. (I've asked him the same questions alot!) We are going to really miss his assistance and fellowship. Our deepest sympathy for his family whom we often heard so much about.

Our deepest condolences to Greg's family for your loss. Greg was our trusted advisor for about 7 years and helped us so many times during that period. He was always there to answer any questions that we had and carved time out of his day to make sure we were taken care of. He always talked about his love for his wife and children in every meeting that we had. Our heart breaks for you. Sending you many prayers of peace during this painful time.

To the entire Allison family, and especially Meagan, we are so sorry for passing of Greg. Lydia adored him and she would joke with our girls about "my Greg" and "your Greg". My thoughts are with you in this incredibly difficult time. Anne, Mabel, and Cora

I was and still am in total shock with Greg's passing. I can only imagine the pain you and your family are feeling. I had been a client of Greg's for over 10 years but also considered him a good friend. Greg was one of the most gracious, loving and caring people I know. He touched my life in many ways and will be greatly missed. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers and pray that we will all be together with Greg and God enjoying eternal life. God Bless you all, Robert
