Jan 20, 1945---Aug 05, 2022

On Friday, August 5th 2022, L. C. “Jack” Jackson III of Wichita KS, beloved father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 77 at his family home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Katherine “Kaki” Jackson, L. C. “Jick” Jackson Jr., and daughter, Shannon G. Jackson.  Jack is survived by his son, Shawn C. Jackson and his spouse, Nadia Astoquilca-Jackson; three grandchildren Julian, Giselle and Gian; sister, Julie Fegel; niece Carey Fegel, nephew James Fegel, and former spouse, Janice G. Jackson.  Jack was known for his outspoken personality, his fierce independence and determination and the love he had for his family.  At Jack’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial services. The Celebration of Life for Jack will be Sunday August 28th  from 1pm to 3pm at the Omni Business Center 111 S. Whittier St. Wichita, KS, 67207.

Jack graduated from Wichita Southeast in 1963.  He lettered in Gymnastics and was all State champion in the parallel bars. He went on to attend Wichita State University and graduated “CUM LAUDE” with a Bachelor of Business.  He joined the family business L. C. Jackson Inc. Wholesale Furniture rising to Vice President.  After the business closed in 1985, Jack worked for American Office Furniture and Southwest Office Supply.  In 2002 he joined Royal Caribbean and worked at the Call Center in Wichita until his retirement in 2012.

Jack and Jan VanScoyk fell in love and married in 1966. They raised 2 beautiful children and enjoyed 3 wonderful grandchildren.

During his free time, Jack coached Shawn and Shannon through the years in various sports and was a loving father.

When Shawn married Nadia Astoquilca in 1996 Jack immediately was accepted by Nadia's large family.  Jack attended all family get togethers’ and participated in outings to the movies, swimming pool, 5ks, and pumpkin patches. Jack was also an integral member of the family’s annual Christmas talent show where he could be counted on to provide an “impartial”, in-depth and eloquent analysis of the cousins’ various musical, literary, and physical talents.  A great debater and orator with an exceptional memory, Jack often engaged in lively discussion on a myriad of topics.  He would often recite his favorite poems from Robert Frost and William Blake. And until his late 60’s he could demonstrate his physical talent by standing on his head.

Jack was 100% devoted to his grandchildren, often going out of state to support his grandchildren in their many sporting  events. He would visit his grandchildren on a monthly basis and Julian, Giselle and Gian loved him so very much.

Jack dearly loved his sister Julie and her family.  He had many long-distance calls with Julie. He also had many candid talks about the oddities of life with his niece Carey.  One of Jack’s favorite sports was baseball and he liked coaching his nephew, James on how to hit a baseball.

Jack enjoyed the local Y Men's club and the annual Christmas Tree sale.  He loved going to the YMCA to work out and practice his hand balancing.  He also volunteered at the Sedgwick County Zoo as a Docent (educator) Volunteer.  His favorite animal to educate the public about was the tiger.  Jack also enjoyed meeting with his 1963 high school classmates, "The Lunch Bunch” once a month at the Candle Club.   Jack joined the local Toastmasters chapter to improve his public speaking skills.  Toastmasters sharpened his skills to debate his best friend Mark Levy.  Their weekly Meetings  of the Minds at Suite Things in Eastgate Mall were legendary and brought him much joy.

Lloyd "Jack" will be dearly missed.  His zest for life and love for his family and fellow friends will never be forgotten and he will remain forever in our hearts.

The Celebration of Life for Jack will be Sunday August 28th from 1pm to 3pm at the Omni Business Center 111 S. Whittier St. Wichita, KS, 67207

I was always in great admiration for my cousin Jack, in particular for his determination to overcome the polio disability of his youth to become a champion gymnast. We lived far apart and I remember him most from family get togethers as kids, but his humor and strong sense of family are what stay with me most. Sending loving thoughts to Shawn and Nadia and Julie.

One of my fondest memories of Jack was during the backyard barbecues my family had. Back then, I was typically the only kid at these gatherings and he would often entertain me by demonstrating his headstand talents on tables, chairs, you name it. There wasn’t a dull moment with Jack. He truly was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.

Jack was an amazing guy, true friend. He was full of life, always on the go. In his younger days he coached both his son and daughter in little league. He told the kids, “It’s not all about winning but about good sportsmanship.” The most important people in his life were his 3 grandchildren. He traveled at least once a month to spend time with the three of them. He had a brilliant mind. He never forgot, not even the smallest detail. I would ask him a question about something that happened 20, 30 years or more ago. He could tell me the exact date and all the details, even what someone was wearing. Loss brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, the smiles fade but I will have the memories forever. RIP Jack. I will love you forever! I have all of our shared memories.

My granddad was the best grandfather I could ask for. Growing up, he was one of my biggest supporters when it came to sports, school, and other activities. I knew he was always there for me and no words can express the amount of love he had for his grandchildren.

Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another. Mr. Jackson, you truly distinguished yourself! Thank you for being an example to me of how one should live one’s life. I truly loved having you as a model and as an inspitation! You will be missed but will never be forgotten! Stevan A. Cisneros
