James N. "Jim" Ries, 89, passed away on June 19, 2022. He was born in Peoria, Illinois to Nick and Emma (Soptich) Ries on December 22, 1932. He graduated from St. Anthony's Grade School, Bishop Ward High School, and Donnelly College. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim married Mary Anita Doleshal on November 9, 1963. Together, they had two children, Stephen and Deborah. Jim worked for The Kansas City Star for over 30 years, having retired as classified advertising manager.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gloria Goetz, and brother, Paul Thomas Ries. He is survived by his wife, Anita, of nearly 59 years, their children, Stephen of Overland Park, and Deborah of Kansas City, Kansas, grandson, Noah, of Kansas City, Missouri, and numerous family and friends. 

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Kansas Animal Services or Wayside Waifs.

So hard to believe a week has past since the loss of this wonderful man. He always had a smile, a funny story, joke or witty fun fact. As Bobby says….he was so good to my sister and in the younger years he co-signed many a car loan at Christ the King credit union when Dad was frustrated and not thrilled at me buying yet another car. He was rock solid of quality character, loving and supportive to all who knew him. We are so very very sorry for your loss Nita, Steve & Debbie. Sending our deepest condolences, love & prayers.
