James Alan Lynch, 71, passed away peacefully June 18, 2022 with his family at his bedside after a courageous battle with ALS. James, known as “Jim” to family and friends was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 27, 1951., to Harold and Eleanore Lynch. At the age of 1, the family relocated to Overland Park, Kansas. Jim attended Crestview Elementary School. Milburn Junior High School and Shawnee Mission North High School.
Jim began his College experience while working part-time at QuikTrip. He became an asset to QuikTrip succeeding in advancing to manager. He was offered a leadership role as an Auditor and soon became the lead auditor. He retired after 30 years with QuikTrip. He was a role model and well respected by the corporation. Jim was known by team members as kind, compassionate, and respectful. Jim was proud of his professional accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, first wife, sister Jeannie, brother Tom, and extended family.
In March of 1997, Jim married Becky Mace who would become his best friend, and companion who cherished him. They traveled to many destinations, exploring new experiences together. Jim’s loves were people, animals, birds and model trains. In his latter days, when he was able, he would be taken in his wheel chair to the patio garden so he could feed the coyfish in the fish ponds. Jim became a parent to Becky’s two adult sons, and granddad to the grandchildren; a role he had desired, but not yet experienced. Jim thought of Becky’s sisters, Kathy and Connie as his sisters. Jim’s love for trains continued through his life. He would design and build massive model train layouts. Jim always has his “Train Room”. He spent many hours volunteering his time and experience to other train enthusiast. He volunteered time and money to a model display at Ward Parkway Shopping Center in Kansas City, MO.
As Jim struggled through this terrible disease that had taken over his body, he remained aware of his fate, but was always positive. Becky was always with him, caring for him, offering support, and loving her best friend. James leaves his wife Becky, and a host of family and friends who will never forget his gifts of kindness and respect to everyone he met. We will truly miss this great man and his gentle soul.
