May 27, 1951---Jun 18, 2022

James Alan Lynch, 71, passed away peacefully June 18, 2022 with his family at his bedside after a courageous battle with ALS. James, known as “Jim” to family and friends was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 27, 1951., to Harold and Eleanore Lynch. At the age of 1, the family relocated to Overland Park, Kansas. Jim attended Crestview Elementary School. Milburn Junior High School and Shawnee Mission North High School.

Jim began his College experience while working part-time at QuikTrip. He became an asset to QuikTrip succeeding in advancing to manager. He was offered a leadership role as an Auditor and soon became the lead auditor. He retired after 30 years with QuikTrip. He was a role model and well respected by the corporation. Jim was known by team members as  kind, compassionate, and respectful. Jim was proud of his professional accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, first wife, sister Jeannie, brother Tom, and extended family.

In March of 1997, Jim married Becky Mace who would become his best friend, and companion who cherished him. They traveled to many destinations, exploring new experiences together. Jim’s loves were people, animals, birds and model trains. In his latter days, when he was able, he would be taken in his wheel chair to the patio garden so he could feed the coyfish in the fish ponds. Jim became a parent to Becky’s two adult sons, and granddad to the grandchildren; a role he had desired, but not yet experienced. Jim thought of Becky’s sisters, Kathy and Connie as his sisters. Jim’s love for trains continued through his life. He would design and build massive model train layouts. Jim always has his “Train Room”. He spent many hours volunteering his time and experience to other train enthusiast. He volunteered time and money to a model display at Ward Parkway Shopping Center in Kansas City, MO.

As Jim struggled through this terrible disease that had taken over his body, he remained aware of his fate, but was always positive. Becky was always with him, caring for him, offering support, and loving her best friend. James leaves his wife Becky, and a host of family and friends who will never forget his gifts of kindness and respect to everyone he met. We will truly miss this great man and his gentle soul.

I remember Jim from Crestview Elementary and Milburn Jr. High School. Jim was a mild mannered, warm and friendly person. He was a good role model in class and on the playground. I seem to recall that Jim sported a very good looking crew-cut in those days at Crestview, and that he likely went to Mel’s Barber Shop on 50 Hwy (Shawnee Mission Pkwy). I believe Jim lived south of the busy highway and since I lived north, we weren’t neighborhood playmates so much, but there were occasional pick-up baseball and football games at different locations. I send my sincere condolences and hope that Jim’s family can be comforted by God’s promise of the resurrection.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Jim was a great help to me as a friend and co-worker. He helped me both professionally and personally in my early years at QT. He will be missed. Your family is in my prayers.

I met Jim when he was an Accounting Supervisor with QuikTrip. We attended meetings together in the corporate office. I was always impressed with his knowledge, professionalism & overall nice person that he was. When I moved to KC, I had the pleasure of working with him while he was Lead auditor. He really enjoyed being in the stores, interacting with Operations. If anyone had a question about QuikTrip stock, he was your go to person. He will be greatly missed. My condolences go out to his entire family. Tammie Jarvis.

Dearest Becky, Michele and I are so very sorry for the loss of your best friend and husband, Jim. I met Jim about 8 years ago at a model train club housed in a shopping center. We became instant friends and soon our love for modeling trains established a great bond. When the club disbanded, I had no where to go and run trains. Jim stepped forward and volunteered to help me build my own layout. I was “saved”! We’ll miss him very much and his spirit will live with us forever!

Becky, we are heartbroken for your loss and ours. Besides being my first cousin, Jim was a friend, a man I always respected, and loved. I will remain forever grateful that I saw him, and he acknowledged my presence, before passing to a place where he will no longer suffer. Cuz Jim, you will forever be in our hearts. We love you. A special thank you to Kathy, Becky's sister and hospice nurse, for keeping Jim comfortable in his final days.

Jim was my Stepdad’s Step dad, and although that sounds confusing, Jim was a huge part of my life as a child. I would always look forward to going to his house and play air hockey, sew with Becky, or watch his trains. The last time I saw him was about 5 years ago when I was in college. He was healthy. I moved and didn’t keep in touch. I regret not seeing them more, and being there for him in his sick years. He is loved and will be greatly missed!

I miss my brother, but he will live on in our hearts forever. We should all strive to be as kind and good as Jim was. Thanks to Becky and her sister Kathy for taking such great care of him. I know we all miss him, and the days ahead will be hard, but Jim would want us to go forward and be happy in life, because that's the kind of guy he was. God Bless you Becky for all the great years you shared with my brother.
