Phillip T. Shannon, 72, of Overland Park, KS passed away June 12, 2022.  Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM, Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 West 103rd Street, Overland Park, KS.  Everyone wear your Chiefs attire.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation and/or Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Phil was born May 20, 1950 in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Raytown South in 1968.  He worked as a lithographer at Allied Lithographing for 36 years, and owned JC Liquor for 6 years.  He was a member of the Eagles and the Elks Lodges.  Phil enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, sports—especially the Chiefs and horse racing.  Phil was a special man who was always there for his family and friends. He never met a stranger who didn’t think he was a great guy.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Jane Shannon, Clarence Shannon, brother G. David Shannon—killed in Vietnam, and his grandmother Irma J. Waddell.  He is survived by his wife-Karen S. Rashid Hindley Shannon, married June 28, 1986, children-Stacy Johnson (David), Michael Shannon (Dee Dee), Sean Shannon, Paul Hindley (Courtney), siblings Deborah Shannon of Harrisonville, MO, Paul Timothy Shannon of Big Springs, NE, Susie Schmidt of Aurora, CO—married to Terry Schmidt, grandchildren: Bryce Johnson, Hailey Johnson, Micayla Pierce-Thomas, Dakota Shannon, Hudson Shannon, Taylor Hindley, Harper Hindley, Emerson Hindley and many extended family and friends.

My wife Mary and I were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Phil's death.We had just seen Phil and Karen earlier this year while they were in the Orlando area. We had not seen them in over 30 years. We had a wonderful visit. Phil was the same Phil I had always known from our high school days. He was truly one of the nicest people I have ever known.
